Default Website Review Please

Hello Everyone,

I have a modelling Portfolio website that I made, and I would like to
improve it where I can, the thing is I'm not a web designer but I can grasp
things quickly, so tips and advice from you more experienced
designers/webmasters would be invaluable.

That's it? One page of a dozen tiny pictures with a .. thing .. that
grows on top of them?

There's hardly anything there, and what is takes over a minute to load
on a 56k modem. I thought I was staring at a blank page and nearly
reported that.
<p align="center">&nbsp;</p> in your source shows that you're just
dipping your toe into the web.
Try:
<http://www.w3.org> for lots of stuff on learning HTML and CSS. Follow
the appropriate links.

I get lots of "Java Applet Failed" and "exception:
java.lang.NullPointerException" error messages.

When it does work, it is a bit pointless. It doesn't do you any justice and
fails to showcase your images.

I would suggest you try to work out what you want your site to do. If it is
to be an online portfolio then lose the java widget and put some text in
(contact details?), thumbnail the images and let them lead to full size
ones.

Hi.
You might want to take a look at
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...chaellopez.com
Fix the errors that the site points out and then allow us to take
another look at your site.
By the way. Get rid of the frames they are very bad and will hinder
your site from getting in to the search engions.
Also. that banner you have inserted on the left, is really not good
eather. It takes the focus away from the text. But considering what you
are trying to promote. That may not be bad. But you should atleast
place alt text on all your pics. For people who are using text only
browsers or screne readers, or for people who have images turned off.

OK, first off; I'd recommend a more slimmed-down, standards-based
design. In other words, get rid of the frames, and links that open up
new windows and that fandangled javascript "Photo Album". Aim for
something simple.

If you want some tips on web design, try a website called "A List Apart"
http://www.alistapart.com

Good luck with your endeavours
Derek
