I'd recommend a VPS solution to most anyone these days, just because they are an affordable solution. Control panels are not a feature, they are a limitation. Heres a quote from some propaganda I have on my web site. Although I do resell vps's from one company, there are many companies to choose from. <quote src="http://geniegate.com/unix/vps.php"> Control panels do serve a useful function, however, the bigger reason for a control panel is to limit your access to the system. You see, when an ISP gives you a control panel, (often advertised as a "feature") you are extremely limited in what you can do. </quote> Most "control panel" based hosts are an incredible pain to do anything more than basic vanilla static content because you'll end up chasing all over looking for the right pathnames to use. They seem to think '/' should be the "DocumentRoot". People get mixed up by that and end up putting private stuff on public web server space. I hate them. That would cost you nearly eight bucks! (For those who don't know, I'm in Scotland, UK.) -- Charles Sweeney http://CharlesSweeney.com |

On California refined capacity supplied by Alaska, we went up to about $3.20/gal after Katrina. I haven't checked in the last week, but I'll bet we're at least on par with you. Of course, we are supplied with that California grade gas that, in winter, has recently been proven to poison the water supply everywhere it's implemented. Google MTBE if I'm doubted. After ten years of deeply poisoning the water supply by requiring it's refinerys to produce even more poisonous gasoline, it appears that the State of California has decided that MTBE is neither good for them or us in Nevada. Nevertheless, the price of California gas is normally considerably higher than in any other place in the US because of other California political decisions. &diety; knows what the California legislature will initiate next in their unwisdom. I hope it doesn't affect bordering states, but it probably will. I just hate being a guinea pig for fools in another state. There are enough in my own. Well, that was political. Doesn't happen often. leo -- <http://web0.greatbasin.net/~leo/> |

But they aren't a lot of help. The problem here is twofold: First of all, we're in Maryland, which has the second highest state gas tax in the country (Georgia is highest). Also, we're in Bethesda. This means we get higher prices because we're in Montgomery County (the gas companies even admit they charge stations in Montgomery County higher prices). And, being "close in" (near to DC), land prices are sky high. So station owners need to make more per gallon to pay their rent or taxes. The whole combination means we have the highest gas prices in the area. When I went by the closest one to me last night (an Exxon), the price was at $3.39/gal. I do see there are a couple in downtown Bethesda at $3.09/gal. That's unusual enough that I'll have to check them out. -- ================== Remove the "x" from my email address Jerry Stuckle JDS Computer Training Corp. jstucklex@attglobal.net ================== |
