| Civilians | Is there some way to protect my personal information when registering a domain name? I am mainly concerned about my phone number and address. I use an email rerouter, so I'm not as concerned about the email address. Thanks -- For email, use Usenet-20031220@spamex.com |

| Civilians | And lo, LurfysMa didst speak in alt.www.webmaster: > Is there some way to protect my personal information when registering > a domain name? Godaddy offers a privacy service for most TLDs. I am sure some other registrars do as well. If I query Whois for microsoft.com, google.com, or yahoo.com, I get an error message: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden. -- For email, use Usenet-20031220@spamex.com |

I use an > email rerouter, so I'm not as concerned about the email address. Some registrars, like eNom.com, offer an ID protection service. They basically display their information in the WHOIS database, but keep yours on file in case there is a need. --Tina -- http://www.AxisHOST.com - Serving the web since 1997 Very Generous Cpanel Hosting & Fully Managed Servers |

I use an >email rerouter, so I'm not as concerned about the email address. I use a Post Office Box for my address (not just for domain registrations, most of my mail goes to my POB). I do receive some mail relating to domain registrations and other internet services, but it's not much. After all, unlike email, it costs the sender real money to send snail mail. I've yet to receive a phone call that I suspect is related to my domain registrations. All of my phone numbers are on the U.S. National Do Not Call list. -- Ken http://www.ke9nr.net/ |

Hmmm... I do, too, now. But not for Microsoft.com. I got errors when I tried earlier. -- For email, use Usenet-20031220@spamex.com |
