does anyone know anything about websites like free-merchant dot com? are
they genuine? is there a sting in the tail as in high charges for their free
credit card processing?

Surely if it's free card processing, then that means there is no charge

I don't know about sites "like" that one; you'd have to be more specific.
The one you mentioned appears to be legit. Their discount rate (2.39% +
..25) is pretty standard, but their monthly fee is quite steep: $29.95.

I've been considering going with ECHO (http://www.echoinc.com/); they
have a decent discount rate (2.25% + .30), and the monthly fee ($19.95)
is only charged in months when you have transactions.
