| Civilians | Hi Group, I am nearly there, just need your help on a couple of small silly things. At the bottom of this page is my hit counter. http://wairoa.net/temp/home.htm Now this shows up fine in Mozilla, Netscape, Firefox but it does not show up at all in IE. Any ideas as to what I need to do to fix this please? Thanks in advance jenny |

And William is correct. Hit counters are inaccurate and should be avoided. For instance, what happens if I keep hitting "reload" on my window? Your counter keeps incrementing. Or, since you use javascript, what happens if my javascript is turned off? Another problem is that when I accesss the page, it may or may not actually get it from your site. Any host between your site and me may have the page cached - and return the cached copy. This cuts down on the amount of bandwidth needed. And these are just a couple of potential problems. -- ================== Remove the "x" from my email address Jerry Stuckle JDS Computer Training Corp. jstucklex@attglobal.net ================== |

Then I would suggest that you get one from http://www.statcounter.com You have the option of making it invisible. Also if the local paper need to know how many hits your site is getting you can set it up so that they recieve a weekly Email Report. The report would only be basic. But with the counter. If / when you log-in to your account, you can track the visitors IP address.... Very handy at timse, also shows the browser and screne resolution. It's well worth it. and it's free. Besides others telling counter is not maybe nicest idea, you might suffer drop in "visitors" (nothing to do with reality that much because counters are unreliable) when you have new pages up if you have changed filenames be different from old files to new. It takes while form search engines, people etc. to get around find new versions of pages instead if there's been changes in names... |
