Default Google getting wise to sponsored text links?

A rumour, or perhaps an unsubstantiated claim, has reached us that
Google is possibly ignoring sponsored text links on web pages, and
certainly differentiating between links. If this is true, and our
source is fairly reliable, then it could have a serious impact upon
those web sites that use sponsored links, and those that rely upon
buying links on high PR pages for SEO (which is a controversial
concept in any event).

Welcome to 2005. This has been around for months now. If links to your site
all use the same text Google has been punishing you. In fact if they even
think you are buying links to raise your PR they will punish you.

Um, more likely you just won't get the same weight for the links that
you might had they thought they were from genuine sources. Google is
slowly becoming Teoma, it really has nowhere else to go.

I'm sorry. Not being a SEO expert I only recently came by it. Why
didn't you post it when it was fresh?
