Default ***NEWBIE*** Godaddy subdomain/directories help ***NEWBIE***

Hi I just registered with godaddy, and am having some problems.

I am trying to access sub-directories that I have on my hosted site thru
my domain name. For example if my domain was www.fakedomain.com, and I
am hosted at www.hostedsite.com/~fake. How do I access the directories
thru my domain name? If I have a directory at www.hostedsite.com/
~fake/test, I'd like to simply just type in www.fakedomain.com/test.

Update, I e-mailed godaddy about this but they haven't been much help,
they pointed me to manage my sub-domain link on account, but I keep
getting an error.

I put this in the fields:

sub-domain name: www.fakedomain.com/test
forward to: www.hostedsite.com/~fake/test

When I try to submit it, it gives me an error that I should enter a
alpha-numeric or numeric characters in my subdomain. What am I doing
wrong?

Sorry I am a newbie! Also does it make a difference that my domain is
parked with godaddy and I am just forwarding to my hosted site?

If you are not Brian Guinan, who owns fakedomain.com, you should not
use his domain name in your examples. hostedsite.com belongs to
Allegiance Telecom, Inc. of Dallas, TX.

For posts like yours, use http://example.com/ which is reserved for
the purpose.

I wonder why you forgot to tell him, that if he is not Lisa Seaman, he
shouldn't use the mail address he is using either... ;-)

You also need to set up your web server to respond appropriately to your domain
name.

Every webserver has to be configured to serve the host(s) it supports. For
instance, a typical shared host may have one IP address, but may server hundreds
of domains. Each of the domains has to be configured in the webserver's
configuration file. And even a dedicated host needs configuring.
