Default registrar recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good and honest domain registrar?

Specifically, if any of you had bad experience with directnic, speak up now
or forever regret sending my business to them!

Thanks

They are pretty good but godaddy is cheaper. One thing I don't like
about directnic is that they continue to send out renewal warnings for
names I've already moved to godaddy.

I like eNom - been with them for years and I've always been happy with their
service. Customer service is very helpful and their interface is simple,
yet allows you to manage almost every aspect of your domain. I notice a
trend of other registrars trying to confuse you into ordering services you
don't need with your domain purchase...eNom doesn't do that.

I looked at godaddy. It seems to get their low rate, you have to buy some
non-domain product. I looked everywhere on their web site to find out what
those other products are, and only found some hosting offerings.

The claim to be "straight shooters", but that "buy one other non-domain
product" requirement is pretty obscure. Further, apparently they charge for
support, i.e. things go wrong on their end, and I have to pay them to
listen to my complaints. I don't like this business model, since it
encourages thing going wrong.

I also looked at this group's archives, it seems people are very
dissatisfied with Godaddy's service.

It's $8.95 a year for most TLD's, $7.95 for transfers. During the
sign-up they hit you with a bunch of other offers but you just click
through all of that.

If you want the $3.99 deal, you have to buy something else with the
domain. I never bothered.

Support is free and prompt.

As far as I know, the only complaints have been about their TOS, which
does give them the option to grab your domain if you are using it for
"morally objectionable" puposes that they have the sole power to
determine. That is a bit troubling and gave me some pause, because it
does seem a bit heavy-handed, but the only times I've seen that happen
were to spammers and one particular notorious pedophile who posted on
his site a picture of a bare-chested adolecent girl giving the finger;
presumably to his critics.

I'm not happy about that provision in the TOS, because it could be
abused, but I haven't seen any evidence that it has. I've moved all of
my domains there and I'm not concerned in the least about them ever
shutting me down.

But to each his own.

I have been a long time user of http://www.epicdomains.com which I
believe is a sub of GoDaddy.com . The price is $8.75 per year and
$7.85 for transfers. They also parade a bunch of offerings by you but
these can be ignored unless you have an interest. I have been quite
happy with their service. I have never had to resort to any support as
their site is pretty good at getting your through all the hoops.

You don't say for which country you need a registrar, but for TLD names, I
moved mine to Godaddy. Very pleased with them.
