Default Novice needs basic webpage advice

I am running an accounting service business. I have a 1-page webpage (I used
template given by the hosting company and juz change the text becos that's
all I know)

I want to put a counter so that I know the how many people visited it. How
to do it?(free if possible)

I heard that it's useless to have a website if nobody visits it. So how do
I direct people to my website?

Thanks

SOmeone else already gave a good answer. But you should have access to the
"web logs" which is can be much more informative than a counter. Check into
it with whoever hosts your page

The first thing you should do is create a "signature" that goes onto your
posts with your site listed in it. Use Google and groups.google to search
for conversations where it would be appropriate for you to jump in. Not
spamming your business but making comments and letting them see your sig

A large picture of Sam Fox, topless, does it for me.

Any particular flavour?

Not of any flavour. Nor design nor colour.

For a VERY basic hit counter, you can use the one I use for my personal
pages (when I care to track hits) - www.amazingcounters.com - or just google
"free hit counter"

But, as others have said, proper logging is a much better way to see what
people are doing on your site. IMO, As long as you're still at one page, and
the counter doesn't go up more than about 30-40 in a month, you're probably
OK with the counter. Once you move on past that, get proper logging...

Be aware that most free hit counters are ad-supported and you have to have
the ad link on your page, and a lot of people find hit counters to be rather
annoying.
