| Civilians | http://stevesobol.com/p/2005preview2/ Notes: a) I know. No DOCTYPE. It will be XHTML 1.0 Strict (with the corresponding DOCTYPE placed on the page) when all is said and done, but Photoshop 7 doesn't generate IMG tags that are XHTML-compliant, so I will have to change them myself, and I will be replacing ImageReady's mouseover JavaScript with XHTML-compliant stuff. I'd love to buy CS, and CS would probably fix this problem - but right now I'm too po' to afford CS. ![]() b) Ditched the image map, am using ImageReady slices, put in ALT attributes; this page displays correctly in Lynx. Do need to put TITLE attributes too. c) Ditched the original font (Letraset Mekanik) in favor of Microsoft's Trebuchet, which was specifically designed for display on web pages and therefore anti-aliases much better than Mekanik (or at least the version of Mekanik that I have on my hard drive). d) Cleaned up the overall look and feel. e) Still no content yet. ![]() f) Am using mouseovers. Would be interested in hearing if people think they're OK or not. (I've not yet decided for myself whether they're too cheesy...) I prefer doing that sort of thing in CSS. YMMV. |

Yup, that's because I deleted everything out of that directory and moved it up onto the main site. The site is disabled, and unless you're logged into the blogging software as an admin you'll get that message, but I put in a hack at http://stevesobol.com/view.php which will set a session cookie that will allow you to check out the site even if you're not logged in. Note: IE6 displays the site properly. Mozilla (specifically FireFox 1.04) almost does, but the nav links are off to the left side. I already know I have to fix that. >> f) Am using mouseovers. Yeah, me too, Javascript should not be used if not absolutely necessary - but I tried to implement something in CSS, and decided it would take more time than it's worth - so for now there are no mouseovers or rollovers. Accessibility is more important to me than cutesy animation, and I wanted to make sure I did things in a way that would allow me to put all the alt and title tags in properly. I'm working on the site's stylesheet now, so if you check out the site over the next couple days, keep in mind that the CSS is going to change somewhat. -- JustThe.net - Apple Valley, CA - http://JustThe.net/ - 888.480.4NET (4638) Steven J.
