The first thing you need to do (if you're *serious* about having a meetup) is to poll prospective attendees for possible locations, the have a vote on which location the most people would attend. Only *then* do you decide on a place. Otherwise you're not having an "official" AWW meetup. You're just meeting with some friends you know from online. We can argue about where till the cows come home but the fact is, however unfair, that the British transport network was built such that the only places that most people can get to easily are London, Birmingham, Crewe and Doncaster. So it's a London meet. Now we need to choose when and that means a Saturday afternoon at least a month away. I suggest either June 11th or 18th since they are either side of my birthday. Finally we need to choose a venue. That means a place that's fairly easy to find and which serves beer. We've sort of done The Angel, St Giles, though that's generally a good bet. The pub over the top of Leicester Squre station isn't all that bad as a meet pub. I've also used the Mansion House opposite Kennington station for a meet for another group, and that kind of worked too. So we have two things to vote on or add further suggestions to. The date and the pub. Simple. I'm on one newsgroup that generally has a meet somewhere in the world pretty much every weekend, and another that tends to call meets with less than 24 hours notice. -- eric www.ericjarvis.co.uk all these years I've waited for the revolution and all we end up getting is spin |
