Default Re: Blind user 2 update: test web page launched.

trevor <not@your.house> wrote in
news:117a885dhp9r142@corp.supernews.com:

first, some notes from the blind webmistress:

"I use a regular key board. All functions that most folks do with a
mouse, I do with key strokes. Fo example, I hit "enter" instead of
clicking the mouse to open a link, Many key strokes are windows key
strokes that most people don't know exist because they are so dependent
on a mouse. Others are created through the screen reading software I use
called Jaws."

on inline navigation links:

"Yes, they can be helpful. I navigate a page by using the tab key which
jumps from one link to the next link. Or I can create a list of links one
right after the other and arrow down them to find what I want, or I can
read the whole page from top to bottom, etc. But short cut links like
that can be helpful and save time."

with the speech reader you use, is there any significance to font
treatments such as bold-face or italics?

"No. I can turn "formatting" on if I wanted to and Jaws will tell me if
something is bold or italicized, etc, but in most cases that would drive
a person nuts and interupt the flow of the reading. I would only do that
if I were exploring exactly what a given page or document looked like."

are you able to copy the source HTML code of web pages down so that you
can see the code directly and work on it?

"Yes, I can copy and see the source code." (trevor's note: WAHOO!)

so given this, we took our template, crammed it absolutely full of
comment text, alt text, we integrated the skip link thing and liberal
inline links. it's at
http://www.dataSpheric.com/services/...d_webmistress/

and the idea now is to kick back and wait for surfing usability feedback
as well as code usabilty feedback.

so if anybody knows any blind websurfers, please be kind enough to point
them to the URL and encourage them to get involved.
