Default Google "link to" vs "contain the term"?

Hi,

If I type a web address like "www.some-domain.com" in the Google search
box, it returns serveral options. One is "Find web pages that link to
www.some-domain.com". And another is "Find web pages that contain the
term www.some-domain.com".

What are the differences between these two options. If I have a site
that has hyperlink to "www.some-domain.com", it shows up on only in the
search results for "contain the term", not "link to".

How do I get more sites that "link to" a target web site?

Thanks in advance!

Terry

The "link to" search for whatever reason doesn't actually show all the
sites that do in fact link to you.

The "contain the term" search shows sites with your url that may not
necessarily link to your site. This may happen for example with a
newsgroup post such as this one with my website address in the
signature, but the website showing the posting doesn't convert this
into an actual link, or if the actual link is like eg
redirect.cgi?to=somedomain.com or redirect.cgi?id=123 and it tracks the
clickthrough before redirecting you to the site.

I believe that only sites over a certain page rank are listed in "link
to" results. Could you otherwise imagine how many personal / newbie
websites would be listed in sites that linked to Google et al?
