| Civilians | Dear Group, I have multiple domains, which all pretty much point to the same site (albiet sometimes different pages). Can I submit all the domains to search engines, one after another - or just the primary main domain? Will the crawler robots detect the redirect (same ISP) and block my requests? -- Liddle Feesh *fap fap fap fap* <>< <>< <>< <>< ><> <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< |

Quite a lot of qualification needed with regard to your points, but if Google (for example) see a site redirecting, they will drop it like a hot spud. -- Charles Sweeney http://CharlesSweeney.com |

Redirecting, however, would be different to pointing to the same pages(files). eg. if one.example.com redirected to two.example.com, Google may spit it out. However, if one.example.com was 'pointing' to files on /usr/web/root/index.php and two.example.com also pointed to /usr/web/root/index.php on the same file system, then google will see that they are two different sites. However(again), does google look at things like... if ip address of one.example.com is the same as ip address of two.example.com, and the pages are identicle, does it spit it out? I seem to remember that this was once told to me. I seem to recall this being discussed here with the question of which ever domain name was indexed first will be the one that google looks at. all others will be ignored. Not sure if its the case. Anyone know? -- if the oil light is on, dont think it will just go away |

| Civilians | Thanks for the responses guys. Better to be safe than sorry, and not submit. Google will pick sites up from links anyway. -- Liddle Feesh *fap fap fap fap* <>< <>< <>< <>< ><> <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< |

Anyone know? Loosely speaking, yes. Charles is wrong to say Google will dump any redirect as there are ways and ways of doing it. Not sure if its the case. Anyone know? Like I said, more than a little qualification was needed. However, I would be very wary of having different URLs pointing to the same page. Google say here: http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmas...uidelines.html "Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content" In your example above, one.example.com and two.example.com would be subdomains with duplicate content. As you say, Google may or may not see that as different sites, but personally I wouldn't do it. -- Charles Sweeney http://CharlesSweeney.com |

Google say: "Don't employ cloaking or sneaky redirects" Personally I would not advise people to go against their guidelines. -- Charles Sweeney http://CharlesSweeney.com |
