Default Forums on Web Site; What do you use?

I've been using PHPBB on my sites for a long time now, and it seems lately,
I am having trouble with performance, even on smaller forums.

I was wondering what forum software other use, as I am contemplating giving
something else a try?

I fell in love with VB years ago. Finally when I had the cash I got a copy
for myself.
The reason I know a lot about phpbb is because I was thinking about setting
up a forum on my new domain (see sig) and started asking around about it
because some of the free mods they have cost if you want the same mod for
VB.

Apparently (from the first Google result) that only applies to version
2.0.10 and prior. Mine is newer.

There were some security issues recently, I fixed mine at the time.

I use Hypernews, you can see it work for me here:

I am relatively satisfied with it, but not elated.

I have written my own easy-peasy forum software using PHP and MySQL. I
really ought to clean it up and offer it as a download.
