| Civilians | Hi, I'm looking to "turn pro" and try and get a job as a web designer. Is it worth getting a CIW certificate? TIA Paul -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. If you approach a local garage about making them a website, it's the last thing they will ask for. Some employers who value a certificate over experience might ask for it. -- Charles Sweeney http://CharlesSweeney.com |

A current thread in uk.net.web.authoring begins as follows: "A multi-choice from the CIW mock exam (via computeach) =========================== While developing a Web site for a corporate client, Kevin uses the following HTML tag: <IMG SRC="invisible.gif" WIDTH="75" HEIGHT="125"> Which of the following statements best describes the result of the HTML tag on Kevin's Web page? (Select the best choice.) a. Kevin has created a 75-pixel paragraph indent on the Web page. b. Kevin has added a transparent GIF image to the Web page. c. Kevin has created a client-side image map on the Web page. d. Kevin has added a 75 x 125-pixel frame to the Web page. =========================== The correct answer is apparently A. Don't bother going anywhere near CIW courses. -- Del" I'd be inclined to agree with Del's sentiments, based on the above question. The techniques outlined in the original question are outdated, and the answer to the exam question is just plain wrong. -- Matt Bradley "Myths which are believed in tend to become true" -George Orwell |

Kevin has a web site about old horror movies or the performing arts.
