| Civilians | Warning - if you as a programmer currently use or plan to use www.rentacoder.com in the future, be forewarned you will be experiencing: 1) A very low income for anyone located in the U.S. You will be competing with programmers from around the world where $100 is like $1000 for them. - First of all I'd like to let everyone know that Rentacoder is really a slave shop where you spend hours on end working on for meagre blessings. - Here is an example for you starving U.S. workers: Do you need a qualified coder for a little salary? I am a professional programmer engineer with 6 years of work experience. Salaries and prices are so low in my country, that I am happy to work for as low as $7/hour. My main fields of expertise are Visual FoxPro, C++, PHP (my resume is here). If you think you could give me a one-time job, you could hire me through the service Rent A Coder. 2) You will be at the mercy of a very harsh web site creater, operator, webmaster, and "support" person named Ian Ippolito. Examples of his harshness are spelled out below. Do you want to be on the recieving end of such attitudes from the owner? - You could get a message such as: Your account has been frozen. If you are a Rent a Coder user This could be due to unauthorized behavior or a pending payment verification that you never completed. If the latter is the case, then please contact your facilitator to complete it and get reactivated. - This "unauthorized" behavior may be anything from understandable lack of payment to simply sending a bug report to rentacoder or questioning biased arbitration. Be forewarned if you send them a complaint they will bite back like a scorpion. - I recieved this account cancellation message simply because I confronted the site owner about his harsh attitude. I contacted the rentacoder.com site owner about functionality issues and the result was my account was cancelled. - Excerpt from a past rentacoder dispute - words from Ian Ippolito : "1) I will be reporting you to the VISA (or Mastercard) Internet Fraud Division with your tracked email address and IP Address (both of which have been re-confirmed again by the headers in this email you just sent me!). Every time we've done this, people have lost their credit card accounts, and I look forward to making you lose yours. - Do you really want to be working with someone who "looks forward" to a person's demise? Stop and think before doing anything with rentacoder.com - the site "owner" shows absolutely no restraint when it comes to answering support questions and problems. Additionally: - In trying to utilize rentacoder.com the hardest thing is requirements refinement. Figuring out what the customer, or buyer wants is very time consuming. Many buyers start out abstract, then steal the programmers' suggestions and repost a more detailed request. - Programmers frequently realize it's more work than what they thought and just give up and never respond to the client again. - From Ian Ippolito regarding the rentacoder.com website startup: "There was quite a backlash at the time as well. I received lots of angry e-mails from U.S. coders sold on the same idea I originally had ..." - Do not EVER send complaints to rentacoder - you will be zapped and terminated by the rentacoder high command: Ian Ippolito. You will be "labeled" with "inappropriate behavior." Ian Ippoloito lacks understanding, patience and tolerance, period. - Instead of any apology from rentacoder what you will get is a terminated account - for no reason other than Ian Ippolito's foolish pride and arrogance. - I don't think rentacoder.com hurts anyone, but the Indian guy's going to win the bid every time. It's amazing how our industry was destroyed so quickly. We can't even make a couple of bucks on the side anyomre. It's like suddenly everyone became super-computer literate overnight, and now the guys at Wal-Mart can do the same work we do. - Big Bad Bob wrote: looked at the rentacoder.com site just for fun. There are many jobs for ery little pay. One in particular titled "Repair Software": Solve the memory leaks and high cpu usage problems in a multi-threaded Delphi application - maximum bid accepted $100. By the time a programmer finished with this little project, they would be working for pennies per hour. - It is a buyer's market only. It is hurting the entire global software economy and causing a perpetuating false belief that software should be fast accurate and very cheap. - Be forewarned that if you disagree with Ian Ippolito you will be insulted and kicked off his system. - You can be sure that if you find Ian Ippolito defending the complaints and information in this article, it will be out of his arrogant nature, period. -=- This message was sent via two or more anonymous remailing services. |

I live in Mexico, most people make 1/8 here compared to people in the US. So if they ask 1/7th of the price does that mean their work stinks? Moreover, the sad thing is: if they need a computer they have to pay a price that is 1.15 times the price one pays in the US (so roughly 9.2x more, sometimes more). And, somehow, I have the idea that the stuff one can buy here is *made* for the Mexican market, e.g. different quality. > Consider bids from people who have > high ratings only. On the other hand they either have a nice sting, or a nice pinch. (Often: when their pinch is weak their sting is nasty and vice versa, so watch out for scorpions with little weak pinchers :-D) -- John Perl SEO tools: http://johnbokma.com/perl/ Experienced (web) developer: http://castleamber.com/ Get a SEO report of your site for just 100 USD: http://johnbokma.com/websitedesign/seo-expert-help.html |

Yup, the same people who have to work like crazy to even be able to buy a computer, let alone the software and the internet connection. -- John Perl SEO tools: http://johnbokma.com/perl/ Experienced (web) developer: http://castleamber.com/ Get a SEO report of your site for just 100 USD: http://johnbokma.com/websitedesign/seo-expert-help.html |

I already have people emailing me who think I dance naked for 3 pesos while programing. -- John Perl SEO tools: http://johnbokma.com/perl/ Experienced (web) developer: http://castleamber.com/ Get a SEO report of your site for just 100 USD: http://johnbokma.com/websitedesign/seo-expert-help.html |
