| Civilians | I have no experience publishing anything on the web. I have written several semi-sophisticated apps using the Access (Jet) database. I don't see any possibility of using anything but Jet (e.g., can't use whatever SQL db's one can access with ADO, unless there's a free one embedded in MS Office somewhere?) 1 - Is there any hope of my publishing an Access application on the web? One that allows updates? If there's hope, could someone suggest where I should start my reading? Should I learn to publish simpler things on the web first? Or does Access take care of that? TIA Laurel |

The first thing you need to know is how to create web applications because you can only use Ascess/Jet for the data. You will need to use another set of tools to create the entire application that you have in Access over again only using web technologies like ASP. -- I don't check the Email account attached to this message. | Civilians | A few of the methods for web use of a Jet database: (1) Data Access Pages -- these are the Pages in an .mdb ACCESS file. They use ADO and VBScript, and have some severe limitations compared to forms/reports. However, they use standard web browser features and can be useful for many applications. (2) ASP -- can be done via Front Page (MS). Many shopping cart programs (as well as many other web applications) use them for database applications. I believe they use ADO and VBScript as well, but I am less familiar with ASP. You should obtain a book or two on web publishing methods, and take a look at some of the newsgroups related to these. Good luck. -- Ken Snell <MS ACCESS MVP> "Laurel" <FakeMail@Hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23Y8pp9PGFHA.1476@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... >I have no experience publishing anything on the web. > I have written several semi-sophisticated apps using the Access (Jet) > database. > I don't see any possibility of using anything but Jet (e.g., can't use > whatever SQL db's one can access with ADO, unless there's a free one > embedded in MS Office somewhere?) > > 1 - Is there any hope of my publishing an Access application on the web? > One that allows updates? > > If there's hope, could someone suggest where I should start my reading? > Should I learn to publish simpler things on the web first?
