Default Shopping Carts probably overworked here

I have been setting up websites with oscommerce.

I was just curious to see what else what is now, checked around about
a year ago. I am surprized to see how many carts look just the same
and most look like a version or reconfigured oscommerce.

I saw X-cart and it looks exactly like oscommerce. I am sure under the
hood they have improved it and made it a better or easier system to
use. I like the admin backend and wouldn't mind using it if it is a
stable and rugged shopping cart.

Has anyone used X-cart, or what is the major opinion here on the best
or most usable shopping cart available?

I am always open to new things and ideas especially if they are an
improvement over what I have now.

Thanks
