Default Notepad

I use notepad to edit my webpages.

I recently bought a new Dell pc with XP home.

Every since I bought this system, when I go to use notepad to edit the HTML,
when I save the file, it will eliminate all of the spaces that I have
inbetween the lines. In other words, it is just one long paragraph. I have
wordwrap turned on, but that isn't the problem.

I have used HTML Kit in the past, and I tried it again after this problem
started, and it is saving the files the same way that notepad is, one long
paragraph.

For what I am doing, it is so much easier to edit the pages with a blank
line or 2 inbetween the different parts of my webpage.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Thanks...

Chuck

Default Re: Notepad

Notepad uses 2 bytes to end a line by default (0x13 and 0x10). Some machines
use only 0x13 (or 0x10, im not the expert), and once you load a document
formatted in another way then the editer assumed, every hard return will be
converted to... nothing, or an odd char (mine shows a black square instead
of a hard return).
I don't know how your PC handles this, but it might be a good idea to see
what wordpad does with your files - so you know if the problem is in your OS
or in the editor. And if it works, you can at least carry on editing your
files.

Good luck
