| Civilians | Hello, I'm using HTML Help Workshop on Windows XP. Every time I try to save a project, I get the following error message: Cannot write to the file ""myfilename.hhp"". I think it has something to do with the quotes, as I'm having the same problem when I want to compile my project. Then HTML Help puts quotes around the file name as well. When I remove those, the project will compile. But now I have to manually modify the HHP-file as a workaround to update my project... Does anyone know what is going on here?? Thanks, Esther |

| Civilians | Esther, > I'm using HTML Help Workshop on Windows XP. Every time I try to save a > project, I get the following error message: > > Cannot write to the file ""myfilename.hhp"". Try this fix that my fellow Help MVP, Bill Burns, posted to the microsoft.public.helpauthoring newsgroup: "I've seen this problem before, and it's usually due to a registry glitch that causes the project path to be displayed in quotation marks in the compilation dialog box. If this is the case, you'll see doubled quotation marks in the error message. You can continue the compilation process by deleting the quotation marks. To fix the problem in the registry, go into the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.hhp\shell\open\command. The path to the workshop should look something like this:" C:\Program Files\HTML Help Workshop\hhw.exe" "%1" (http://tinyurl.com/5y64q) -- Pete (Microsoft Help MVP) |

| Civilians | Thank you Pete. It doesn't work for me though... I removed the quotes from around the %1, but the error message is still there (I tried restarting my computer). Any other ideas? | Civilians | Esther, > I removed the quotes from around the %1, but the error message is still > there (I tried restarting my computer). I'm still inclined to think that this is a registry problem. If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend searching the registry for any instances of the following string: hhw.exe" "%1" If you find any, try removing the quotation marks from around the %1. Are you using WebWorks Publisher by any chance? This seems to be a fairly common problem on machines where WebWorks is installed. -- Pete (Microsoft Help MVP) |

| Civilians | That's it, Pete!! I ran a search in the registry for hhw.exe and there is an instance called 'hhw.exe'. I removed the quotation marks and now it works. So glad I do not have to update my hhp-file manually anymore ;-) Thanks a lot, Esther "Pete Lees" <pd.lees@btinternet.com> wrote in message news:clrj9n$ha6$1@titan.btinternet.com... > Esther, > >> I removed the quotes from around the %1, but the error message is still >> there (I tried restarting my computer). > > I'm still inclined to think that this is a registry problem.
