My Father wasn't an atheist, he was protestant. He made a promise to the priest that he would raise his children as catholics so he and my Mom could be married in the Church. He never went back on his promises so my Sister and I were raised as catholic. Once we turned eighteen it was then our decision to choose. My Father did attend all these holidays and go to church with us.

Hi, Bonnie! Cold there too! I thought the Southwest would be somewhat warmer. Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day.

We were raised Episcopal and left there with the consecration of a woman bishop in Boston. If she had been taught and had time as a priest, we may have at least wondered if leaving was right. Her education consisted of two hours of Bible study. I'm glad we left when we did; it only got worse!

Anyway, that's when we joined the Catholic Church. We miss the music and beautiful liturgy of the Episcopal Church, but otherwise, this fills the bill. It has what we need, if not what we prefer.

Baptist here.....born and bred and when I die I'll be Baptist dead. I've been to the Catholic church for weddings and a confirmation for a little girl I used to keep as well as the funeral of a very dear friend. I must say I'm in awe of the surroundings and the ceremony but the funeral especially made me feel like a total idiot. I didn't know when to stand or what to do with myself. Surely everyone else was Catholic and surely KNEW I wasn't.

Oh, don't worry about that, Bonnie. If anybody notices and doesn't like it, that's their problem, not yours. The Episcopal Church is said to be the worst about bobbing up and down, and the Catholic Church doesn't seem to have that problem to the same extent.

Mine made the same agreement - and my parents must have had a very liberal priest to marry an Atheist because my father never made any bones about being one. He also went to Christmas Eve Mass and maybe one or two others, but that was it. However, he sought out Catholic Schools where we were stationed and put me in school with the good nuns.

Funny how those nuns all loved him. He would chauffeur them at times and treat them like queens - my father could be very charming when he set his mind to it.

No one cares if you bob up and down or not. A lot of people can't for one reason or the other.

I must say, if anyone noticed, they were more than gracious. If I ever go to a Catholic service again I will just sit in back and observe.
