| Monkey Mouse ![]() | Obama says New Yorker insulted Muslim Americans By GLEN JOHNSON, Associated Press WriterWed Jul 16, 1:03 AM ET Democrat Barack Obama said Tuesday that the New Yorker magazine's satirical cover depicting him and his wife as flag-burning, fist-bumping radicals doesn't bother him but that it was an insult to Muslim Americans. "You know, there are wonderful Muslim Americans all across the country who are doing wonderful things," the presidential candidate told CNN's Larry King. "And for this to be used as sort of an insult, or to raise suspicions about me, I think is unfortunate. And it's not what America's all about." Obama blamed himself for not being forceful enough in challenging some of the rumors about him, including that he is Muslim. Obama is Christian. The son of a Kenyan father, Obama lived in the largely Muslim nation of Indonesia as a child. He dealt with similar questions in February after a photo surfaced of him wearing traditional Kenyan clothing during a visit to Africa in 2006. The cover of the magazine, which hit newsstands Monday, depicts Obama in traditional Muslim clothing — sandals, robe and turban — while his wife, Michelle, has an assault rifle slung over one shoulder and is dressed in camouflage and combat boots with her hair in an Afro. A flag burns in a fireplace behind them as they bump fists, and a portrait of Osama bin Laden hangs above the mantel. New Yorker Editor David Remnick told the Huffington Post Web site the cover was chosen because it had something to say. When first asked about it on Sunday, Obama declined comment. His spokesman, Bill Burton, said it was "tasteless and offensive." Obama said he's developed "a pretty thick skin" running for president and has "seen and heard worse." "I do think that, you know, in attempting to satirize something, they probably fueled some misconceptions about me instead," he said. "But, you know, that was their editorial judgment. And as I said, ultimately, it's a cartoon, it's not where the American people are spending a lot of their time thinking about." The Source

| Crew Dawg ![]() | This is all ridiculous. But, it could mean that we are gonna have to hear about racism every day all day long for 4-8 years, or it could mean that there is a slim chance everybody could finally get it out of their systems and America could go on to the important stuff. Having said that, IF the latter happens, then it will be the women who will need to dominate the following 4-8 year cycle... then get that out of THEIR system. Maybe, just maybe, if all this nonsense doesn't totally distract Obama (or whoever), then America might just be allowed to pay attention to what actually matters and get the help of those whose most important agenda has been their own for the past 50+ years. Already black racists have revealed themselves even to Obama, the best hope their race has ever had for national political leadership. They are gonna make his life miserable nit-picking his words and deeds the whole time he's in office... should he be. He knows it. So, we are witnessing either more of the same old same old, or we are part of a true shifting that will do us all a lot of good. If Obama is smart and man enough to survive it all, then he will go down in American history as one of our finest Presidents ever. If he gets elected, I suspect his beliefs about how and where and when to conduct warfare will change rather abruptly... much to the chagrin of the new Left whose invective will have fallen on fallow ground, again.

| K-9 Unit ![]() | Bluehawk you sound as if politics is like PMS Barack seems to be the more racist or racially biased between him and McCain.

![]() But, politics is a close second. I don't actually think Barack IS all that racist, and I think he's a LOT less racist than he was 18 months ago. This is one of those times in my long life when I do believe I can see the forest for the trees here... if the guy lands POTUS, I think he'd do a fine job of it. I'm not saying I've made up my mind yet, that'll depend on his Veep choice and on what happens between now and November ballots. But, I see him being the new energy generation, some fresh ways of thinking that old scarred up bastids (Conlor taught me that word) like me can't even imagine. He's a dignified young man, with a good little family going there, and plenty of chutzpah. Anybody who can whip the Clintons is high on my list of all-time favorites, for any reason or no reason at all. Frankly, for the first time in my voting career, I could easily live with either candidate for Prez... assuming they do NOT select some idjit for their VP.
