United States Voting Day 2006 - Meltdown?

Here we go again.

Another election nears, ads and debate gets nastier, power brokers broker, talking heads cannot shut up, right becomes the left and left becomes the right, contingency plans are being drawn up, premature celebrations are choking the end-zone.

Hold on! Whoa!

How sure are we Americans in this democratic Republic that THE BALLOTS will be properly or fairly counted?

ok.......2 more cents......

I know a lot of our local election judges. They are fair and equitable folks. They will give their best to make sure everything is on the up and up. It a pretty thankless job these folks take on. It's a long hard day. Mistakes are bound to be made as they would with any enterprise this huge. But they won't be intentional. Our country seems to be almost equally divided between the libs and the consrv's. If this were not the case, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. I have more faith in my fellow man than I let on.

The people, poll workers, will do right, yes.

However, watch carefully... I believe there is a very good chance that this election is going to be extremely problematic due to the presence and/or absence of paper ballots, provisional ballots and electronic vote tally anomalies.

The signs are pointing in that direction, anyhow.

Oh, I agree. If it is at all close, and I think it will be, no matter the outcome, there will be a great hue and cry on both sides. Fraud, disenfranchisement, registration policies, absentee ballots.........it will ALL be questioned.

I will be working at the Polls again this year. People I hear talking say we come we vote and they put in who they want its a shame they don't have trust in the counting of the peoples VOTE.
I had to kick out one person who was passing out flyers for a person running for office because they were passed the line. We do try to keep it on the up and up. Chicago now has Dead people voting or one person voting in many times at differant location. They had one place that they said there should be 5000 votes but when the Polls closed they had 25000 LMAO I got that story from my Father. That was many years ago. JUST HAVE TO HOPE FOR THE BEST.
Thats my 2 cents worth. I KNOW IT WILL BE A LONG DAY!!!

I agree, John. I think people around the country will try their best to keep the elections honest, but people are only human and there will be mistakes, machines do break down also.

I won't guess at a percentage of error, but am sure there will be some. Nothing is perfect.

Few people used the electronic voting machines in alaska in the primary. I think they are a waste of money make people uneasy about voting, I can wait a day or so for the ballots to be counted by a open group of neutral people myself. If there is any cost savings in using them it is nulled by people feeling uncomfortable using them.
