Default Dean is such a liar

It is beyond me why the democrats keep him around.

He has lied constantly on TV everytime I see him. Today he had the nerve to blame Nixon for Vietnam and 25000 extra US deaths there. Last time he lied about statistics in Iraq. I forgot what it was before that.

Anyway this is the DNC leadership.... good luck

Um...I'm sorry...didn't Kennedy start the Advisors Program, which evolved into America replacing the failed French ops there? I'm sure some of our esteemed members could enlighten us on that.

Oh, did he also tell about Carter's pushing the D/F Iran rescue fiasco?

Howard Dean is a brutally effective speaker, not known to mince words. Sit him down opposite a Republican and watch the fireworks fly.

It's no secret this guy can upset Republicans and their supporters with his choice of words.

I like Howard Dean very much. He is a Populist at heart, a man who works for the people unlike most politicians who represent the oil industry or corporate America.

FOX hates Howard Dean and knows he is a threat to their carefully contructed lie everytime he speaks.

Something to chew on...

Dean's remarks make rivals say: Wait a minute By Jill Lawrence, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — As Howard Dean evolves from small-state governor to presidential contender, he is making off-the-cuff statements that could undercut his claim to be the straight talker in the Democratic nomination race, as well as his party's argument that President Bush has a credibility problem.

Howard Dean has had a recent run of flaps related to shifting positions or imprecise language on several issues.
By Susan Walsh, AP

Dean, the former governor of Vermont, set off a mini-furor Wednesday. In a debate Tuesday night, he said, "I'm the only white politician that ever talks about race in front of white audiences." Most of his Democratic rivals — not to mention countless other politicians — frequently talk about racial tolerance, affirmative action and other race-related issues.

North Carolina Sen. John Edwards called Dean's statement a disservice to the people who were onstage with him at the debate in Baltimore. "There was no way for him to know that what he was saying was true," Edwards said Wednesday in a phone interview. "Candidates for the presidency have to be responsible for what they say."

Edwards said he raises race issues everywhere "because I grew up in the South during the '50s and '60s and segregation was going on all around me. It had an effect on me that will be with me forever."

HE SAID, THEY SAID

Some of Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean's comments on issues have been challenged by rivals:

On race

Sept. 9: At a debate in Baltimore, Dean says, "I am the only white politician that ever talks about race in front of white audiences."

Aftermath: Sen. John Edwards points to many times that he and other candidates have addressed race before white audiences.

On the Middle East

Sept. 3: At a rally in New Mexico, Dean tells supporters that "it's not our place to take sides" in the conflict in the Middle East.

Aftermath: Some rivals accuse Dean of breaking with U.S. support for Israel. Dean says his stand is the same as Bill Clinton's when he was president.

On trade

Aug. 25: Dean is quoted in The Washington Post as saying that China and other countries should get trade deals with the United States only if they adopt "the same labor laws and environmental standards" as the United States.

Aftermath: After Sen. Joe Lieberman confronts Dean at a debate in New Mexico, Dean says he would support trade deals based on international rather than U.S. standards.

Joe Trippi, Dean's campaign manager, said Dean's rivals are piling on because he has surged in fundraising and polls of New Hampshire and Iowa, sites of the first two contests. Dean made the same remark in June at a Rainbow Coalition gathering, Trippi said, and "not a single other campaign had any moral indignation at that time when we weren't leading in the polls."

Dean has had a recent run of flaps related to shifting positions or imprecise language on international trade, the Middle East, Social Security and whether he'll participate in the federal campaign-finance system for the primary season.

Earlier this year, in an incident reminiscent of the race remark, he accused Edwards and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry of tailoring their remarks to suit an anti-war crowd at the California Democratic convention. Both men were in fact booed for noting that they had voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq.

Political scientist Eric Davis, a Dean-watcher at Middlebury College, said Dean could easily make amends for mistakes or missteps in Vermont's intimate political community. "He's been having a little difficulty making the transition from being governor of a small state to being a presidential front-runner and thinking, 'What are the consequences of everything I say?' " Davis said.

Dean is "not as prepared as he should be for a detailed examination of his policy positions," Davis said. "The campaign is much stronger on strategy and tactics than they are on policy."

Trippi said Dean's positions are clear and acknowledged only one outright mistake, when Dean said in an AFL-CIO debate last month that he had "never favored" raising the Social Security retirement age. He said Dean corrected himself after the debate.

Some Democrats fret privately that Dean's missteps could undercut their argument that Bush is not credible on the war or the economy. If he is the nominee and "continues to make comments and then backtrack," independent political analyst Stuart Rothenberg said, "it would be harder to accuse the president of flip-flopping or misstating facts."
