Looking at it that way Bush walked all over Kerry.

Default Presidential Election by County

Something I found very interesting was that in Texas, there were very few blue counties but one of them was in the farthest western corner, where I was born, in El Paso at Fort Bliss. The county that contains El Paso and Fort Bliss went Blue for Kerry. Another funny thing is that "Mr. Texas" himself, George W Bush, was not even born in Texas. He was born in Connecticut and got all of his education right here in New England. I'm more of a real, native Texan than George Bush and my birth county in Texas went for Kerry.

Go figure.

That is what dogged his father, someone more from Maine than Texas, but George W. Bush is firmly in the minds of ALL Americans as a Texan, mainly from numerous photo-ops outside sweating in Crawford wearing a 10 gallon hat and work gloves, and his stint as Governor only reinforced such a notion.
He's at least more Texan than George H. Bush, a Kennebunkport boy who moved in search of oil but attended them 'thar' fancy New England prep schools.

Hey, I was born in Dallas myself, Parkland Memorial Hospital, the same place they took the gravely wounded Pres. Kennedy after he was shot and killed.

Default Re: Presidential Election by County

I think you both need to dig a little deeper. He has been in Texas for well over 20 years now and ran for office there and severed in the Texas NG. His family has always had ties to Texas. He owned the baseball team there (Astros?) and was ceo of a company there before beating the Queen of Texas Ann Richards in an upset.

I would say that qualifies him as a Texan,

-Jason

Same way I'm qualified to be an Oregonian. I was born in Connecticut, moved all over with my career military father and career miitary husband and settled in Oregon.

Default Presidential Election by County

Oh, I'm not saying he's not a Texan. He is. No doubt about that, same as I'm a Bostonian.

But he's not Texan by birth, which is the the real meaning of being a Texan.
