Default Needing an honest understanding (Kerry Related)

I know the deal here, and I am not starting this as a jump in and beat up Kerry thread. I want honest opinions and facts from Kerry supporters as to why. I am having a hard time understanding it. Now, don't get me wrong, you will not change my mind about my vote for Bush, however in case Kerry does get elected, I need to see what it is in him others see, as he will be the President of my Nation, and I will have to support him whether I like him or not.

Soo......please, enlighten me, I promise not to bite.

Maybe no replies because it isn't that Kerry is their real choice it's more that they have no viable alternative.

Or it could be the "plans" Kerry offers are what some people want to hear but realize they are not achievable.

Suppose the change in taxes is looked at. That change is touted as being the basis for giving the middle class a tax break. As a source of funding 50,000 new teachers, as the funding for health care for everyone. As the way to fund every request submitted by 1st. responders, as the funding for port security, as funding for additional military personel, an increrase in the minamum wage. Sounds good doesn't it.

What is the long term affect? Corporate tax increase would do what ? Increasing the tax on the upper income would have what net effect? What government agencys would be needed to administer the distribution of those funds? Corporate global interaction would improve with less tax incentive or decrease?

Once a person gets past the gimme & feel good then looks at who will really end up footing the bill it isn't that Pres. Bush looks better it's the reality of what those "plans" will cost long term. We have been told that soc. sec. will fail because only 3 people will be working to pay into soc. sec. Lets look at a single item like 50,000 new teachers. Present wage & benefits paid for by taxes. Next year a raise will be expected right? and each succeeding year. So as the blue collar work force decreases [ remember ] soc. sec. prediction ? What happens to taxes to pay for those 50,000 teachers 10 to 15 years from now? The implication of what Kerry proposes has short term happiness for the gimmee's but long term grief for the children of the gimme's.

That is my opinion I have no reams of facts or figures only a lifetime of seeing what effect social engineering by well meaning gov. has done.

In all fairness, if there is such a thing in politics, check out some of the threads and posts by odanny (whom you will remember as odannyboy) and AndJusticeForAll (whom you will remember as AJFA). They are always well thought out and presented. I don't agree with them, but they do give a lot of very good information and this might help you if the truly unthinkable happens on November 2nd. Whomever is elected by the people, will have my support because he will be the Commander in Chief of the greatest nation on earth! You brought up a very excellent point for all us to consider. Thanks, Dave!

Thank you for the replies. I have a long way to go to understand Kerry. In all honesty, I hope that I will not have to resort to that. I am voting Bush, and feel he is the best for the job at hand. You know, the whole "You don't change generals in the middle of a war", or as a Kerry supporting coworker quipped the other day, "You don't change Horsemen in the middle of Armageddon"...hahaha....

However, i stand firm to the oath I took, that I will defend this Nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and obey the orders of the officers appointed over me, even if I do not agree with him. Were he to become a harm to this nation I so adore, then, yes, I would support his removal, but until such time, he would have my support, if, God forbid, he were elected.

(How's THAT for a run-on sentence?!?!?!)

Gee, even I don't think I could beat that run-on, CommoDave ! Like, I said check out the threads by odannyboy and AJFA have posted. Odannyboy is 100% as passionate in his feelings as I am in mine - but I really respect that he is so passionate and expressive. This is an online viewable link that AJFA gave me about a week or so ago and that might help you some, too.

If you get a chance and it's available in your area, I recommend this Frontline special. In it, I am sure you will something admirable about Kerry and Bush.

You might also learn some stuff about both of their pasts that you didn't know or had long ago forgotten.
