It's the jobs here that we need; the production here that we need. It's the freedom of the people in Taiwan that we need to protect, not their products, although I'm sure you're right about the things in most houses here, Jeff.

But we said we would protect Taiwan from the Chinese commies; I cannot help but think that until they release us from that protection, we must honor it as best we can. I don't like the idea of a war with China, but we'll most likely have to fight one in due course. An ally that near may be of help; may be too small. I don't know.

But Israel and Taiwan are our "protectorates." We have to have enough of a sense of honor in this nation to keep our word.

In another global conflict, short of an all out Nuclear Holocaust, then, we would be FUBARRED.

All well and good until the freedom of our unborn children is at stake, and we are selling them into slavery. We are busted, Miss Marianne. The till is empty. To continue down the path of national bankruptcy is lunacy at best and complete stupidity at it's worst. How many right here are willing to stand and deliver the future of their yet unborn progeny into the hands of poverty. How many are willing to bite the bullet and pay our own way. How many are truly willing to make the sacrifices necessary to insure we have the manpower, materials, and money to be the world's protector.

Absolutely FUBAR'd! We have the knowledge and the technology; it's not like we are a third world, developing nation although having outsourced so much we are very much economically behaving like one.

Bring American goods HOME to be built HERE not in China, not in Taiwan, not in the Philippines, not in Mexico, not in India or Bangladesh but HERE in the U.S. We can pay a little more now or pay a whole bunch later. We are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to dependent on foreign goods for our domestic consumption and our appetite is such that in an instant we could be defeated by the lack of independence. It's time to wake up and smell the coffee and realize that dependency on "the global village" IS our American Achilles tendon, Leobold, and it will bring us down. Bring it home because there are Americans who would gladly put the components together and at least we would have an idea of what the heck we are getting. Pay now or lose later. Later is closer than many of us might want to accept.

I agree, if the fit hits the shan, we're FUBAR'd beyond belief.

Luckily, Australia and Japan have the same protection plan with Taiwan, so we would have nearby bases. The Philippines have also agreed, in principle, to give basing for any asian conflict that the US becomes involved in.

If China goes for Taiwan, South Korea is going to be too busy fighting off the Dear Leader's forces to offer any support at all.

A Chinese military conflict doesn't involve just China and Taiwan, North Korea will head into South Korea and launch missiles toward Japan. Indonesia and Malaysia would start at least shouting at each other. Vietnam is one of the best supports for China there is.

China's military alone could turn Taiwan into the militaristic destruction that would make Galveston look like built up.

But, I don't think it would happen. I think the Middle East and North Africa are going to be like East Asia was in the 50s-70s, where the proxy wars are fought between the superpowers and those who want in the club.

All the more reason, in my opinion, to let the Chinese have Taiwan if they want it. Troop wise, we can not begin to match the Chinese man for man, plus we're a hell of a long way from there.

Post Re: China cancels military contacts with US

Sorry, Sally, but as long as the greedy liberal unions suck the lifeblood out of the companies it has glommed onto like a cancer, the companies will be forced to take its manufacturing elsewhere. Why do you think America no longer makes its own TVs, etc? Because the unions forced them in to paying aggregiously silly wages, etc., to the point that the companies were about to become bankrupt. We are partially to blame for our own problem. Not all unions or companies are greedy evil things, but enough are that we are in the position of being a majority consumer and minority manufacturer.
