I'm from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We had a gas run from all the people from the coast heading to our area.
Most gas stations were out of gas for no more than a few hours. And our prices went up by no more than a dime per gallon.
Driving north from Houston or San Antonio/Austin, or east from Lubbock or Amarillo, we're covered with oil derricks, and most are tapped out. That goes for most of the southern plains.
Like RH said, we have oil derricks within sight of our shores. We have them all over our open land.
The offshore oil and ANWR will do one thing, and one thing only. Build a bridge.
We need to shove money into technology of alternative fuels and power, and the one that's the most ready is nuclear power. Solar needs a full retool, geothermal is under the first tests, no one wants wind powerplants in their backyard, hydroelectric power needs new dams built (a 8-10 year minimum). But, we all want alternative fuels.
I'm sorry to say it, and you can hate me if you'd like, but its time for the rest of the nation, especially the east and west coast states, need to bite the bullet. Its time, and we need the bridge. We start to sink holes in the ground, it'll drop the price of oil, not much, but it will. It'll also take the money out of the middle east, that will be put back into our economy.
New alternative fuels will also bring in jobs, with power plants needing to be built, research centers needing to be staffed, and the supports like grocery stores/mini-marts, Wal-Marts, and other stores that will need to be built and staffed. |
