Thumbs down Baghdad Jim McDermott Presents Legislation Gas Stamps Needy Families

McDermott said that high fuel prices prompted him to propose $5 billion in emergency money to help those most affected.

The Emergency Gasoline Assistance Act would provide every family that is currently living below the federal poverty threshold with $500 in assistance. State governors would have the flexibility to use the money to create programs that target the specific needs of their communities.

The Congressman's office said the average American family will pay $1,000 more in fuel costs this year than last if gas prices remain unchanged.

The bill would give states the discretion to target families most in need of the gas subsidy, provided the gas is used primarily for transportation to work and child care.

McDermott said he'd like to see the proposal wrapped up into the next economic stimulus package.

Where are the Democrats going to get the funding for all the entitlement programs from fee gass to college tuition? Taxpayers. Taking your money to buy votes as in voters depending on and want government handouts because they are too lazy to get off their butts and get a job. What incentive is their for them to earn a living?!

Gas stamps like food stamps there would probably be pilfering, exploitation, fraud and bribery will most likely be out of control. And a gold mine for scammers and drug traffickers.

Hell yea, I'll buy $5 bucks worth of fuel for 3 from the one with no freaking car. Really, when this sort of inflation hits, it affects middle class on down, but it's part of life. You have to pay to play. I'm not saying screw everyone, but I am saying **** off if you want a free ride, and this is what this legislation sounds like.
