| Monkey Mouse ![]() | I don't think we ever bought into that world court, but could be mistaken on this. The UN runs into our Constitution which must be primary. Things that go through State Courts are left to the States to decide and not even the Federal government can tell them what to do.

| Monkey Mouse ![]() | Do you know if we bought into the World Court? I seem to recall that we didn't ratify that.

| Daft. ![]() | Oh wow, the World Court has told the USA they can't punish people according to its laws and nobody is happy about it ![]() We have the European Union telling us things like this pretty much every week with the High Court saying one thing and the Eurocrats (bureaucrats in the EU) say "no, you're not allowed to do that!" Get used to it. |

| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | We're just the way we are, Anth. We make our laws; nobody else can do that for us. That's why we are as we are. Arbitrary, but free to be as we are no matter who doesn't like it. I realize that's difficult for some to accept or even understand, but it's one of the unique things about the people of this nation; we take orders from nobody outside. I don't know how to put it so it doesn't sound arbitrary, so maybe that's all it is. We're free to be ourselves, to make and follow our own laws. Or not -- still, our decision. I'm against the death penalty, but it's the law of the land here in most states. That's not the decision of the Federal government and certainly not the decision of anybody else. The UN wants to be the center of a world government, but that won't work here. Even if one of our presidents and a Congress put it in place, it won't work. It must come from within. Does that make sense? Not that it matters. It's America.

| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | Amen to that. The UN has done nothing but to unite greed and corruption from all over the world. Move them somewhere they fit. Moscow would love to host them. When we start allowing this or any other organization to decide the fate of the murders that have been condemned by our courts, we are no longer a sovereign nation.

I cannot understand why people get so worked up about so-called threats to our sovereignty and the prerogatives (what few they actually have over anyone else) of the UN. The United Nations is THE least of our problems, and we are extremely lucky to have their headquarters within our national borders. America, and most nations, have more precious damn "sovereignty" than they know what to do with or use properly. If we all did a better job of handling our own business, then there would be no need or rationale for a United Nations, League of Nations, European Union, World Court, NAFTA, WTO, Geneva Conventions or any of the rest of it. People, myself included, need to get a grip and look after our own backyard... which is precisely what we are trying to do. So, there is no solution because there is no problem... unless, of course, somebody just feels that there MUST be a problem? Last edited by Bluehawk; 07-20-2008 at 22:50. | |
