A children’s story based on the tale of the Three Little Pigs was rejected for an award after judges became concerned that it would offend Muslims, the Times of London reported.

The animated virtual book for primary school children, The Three Little Cowboy Builders, was also criticized for its potential to offend builders.

The row centered on the Bett awards, which were supported by Becta, the Government’s technology agency for schools. The judges’ remarks, reported on the education technology Web site Merlin John Online, included: “Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?

“The idea of taking a traditional tale and retelling a story is fine, but it should not alienate parts of the workforce. Judges would not recommend this product to the Muslim community in particular.”

Ann Curtis, whose company, Shoo Fly Publishing, produced the CD-Rom, said the criticisms were unjustified and could even “propagate a racist stance”. She said: “I felt disbelief, to be honest. As a small company, we have a strong ethical and moral grounding. We support the rights of all children in the world to have access to education.

“To be told that we cynically set out to alienate minority groups is a very narrow-minded view.” She said the group had had messages of support from the local community, including Muslims. The book had already won an award in a separate competition.

But the Bett award’s backers — Becta, the Besa trade association and Emap Education — said that the book was rejected for a range of reasons. In a joint statement, they said: “The reason The Three Little Cowboy Builders was not shortlisted was that it failed to reach the required standard across a number of criteria. The . . . issues highlighted were a small selection from a much broader range of comments.

“In particular, the product was not sufficiently convincing on curriculum and innovation grounds to be shortlisted.”

The statement said the competition aimed to “reward inclusive and accessible designs” and was judged by a panel of 70 people, including many teachers.

Judges should be nominated for villiage idiot award.

Muslims living in a Western Culture and they find some or that way of life offensive, feel free to go live somewhere else preferably an Arbian nation, a country where freedoms are limited or non existent.

In the U.S. and other western nations, we have the freedom to make choices. You don't like or offended by what you read, hear, see on the tv and radio, then change the channel, and don't read the material.

It's offensive the thought police forcing their beliefs on everyone and pandering to Muslims.

Political correctness buz word sensitivity, the use and implementation has become absurd.

You know i feel that you should not move any place and then expect them to change to suit you....

I know a guy who moved to a new house....two block from an adult book store.... then he started a campain to have the zoning changed to remove the book store because he felt the signs were offensive. As you noticed....I said "I know a guy" he is not a friend. We argued about this.. I told him he was in the wrong... he does not think so.

When I saw the "Three Pigs" being ousted because of worrying the Muslims (the Jews didn't complain about it these past couple of centuries, did they?), Dennis, I came in to mention Little Black Sambo. You beat me to the punch!

I did manage to get a new copy of it a few years ago, as well as the complete Uncle Remus -- classics, both of them. My English daughter-in-law wouldn't let my grandson have them. To her, they are offensive. She has a black adopted brother, only seven or eight months older than she is, so perhaps that's why. She also has five sisters -- natural sisters. But her mother adopted the son because his mother couldn't keep him. The two of them are very close.

I guess it's all in how we were brought up. I never thought of Little Black Sambo as negroid, since he was supposed to be East Indian. However, the illustrator didn't know that -- the characters look like negroes in the book I got. I ordered it by the title, but since tigers are not in Africa, you would think the artist would know the difference. Because of his ignorance, it's a sweet child's story doomed to die.

Lee Ann, this is one way they have of gaining ascension over our culture, making it easier to conquer us as time goes on. Since this is not offensive to Muslims in this article, it seems the PC crowd is simply greasing the slide for whatever happens in the future.

If the Muslims were insulted, by this or by our calling Christmas "Christmas," I feel certain they would say so.
