And I thought my dad was strict....

A Muslim taxi driver in Toronto, Canada, has strangled his 16-year-old daughter after she refused to wear a veil and declared her wish to live her life like other Canadian teenaged girls.

Fifty-seven-year-old, Muhammad Parvez, strangled his daughter, Aqsa Parvez, who is now battling for her life at a Toronto hospital. Not much hope is being held out for her survival.

The incident took place in Missisauga, a Toronto suburb, where many Pakistani-Canadians live.

According to a Toronto Star report, school friends of the girl say that the teen had been arguing with her devout Muslim family for months over her desire to shun the veil.

"Sometimes, she even changed her whole outfit in the washroom at school," Ebonie Mitchell, Aqsa's friend, said.

"She said she was always scared of her dad, she was always scared of her brother," said classmate Ashley Garbutt.

Another friend said: "She didn't want to go home ... to the point where she actually wanted to go to shelters."

Obviously, she was right to be afraid of her father! He wasn't a loving father, he was a monster.

This is perfectly normal in a Muslim nation; it makes the news here because it's in Canada. The father, brother, mother -- any one of them could and would strangle her or kill her in some other way. This is the law; remember always -- Islam and its laws come first; family and anything else comes after that.

Naturally there are many exceptions; but to the devout Muslim, this is done because the daughter brings dishonor to the family. A radical believer will kill her.

Katie, he may have loved her dearly; but Islam comes first. The laws of Islam are to be obeyed.

Killing anybody is a perversion; killing a member of the family is a worse perversion -- but it has nothing to do with how this father felt about his daughter. Love comes after Islam to the fanatic Muslims like this man. Islam is their whole life, and for a child to go against the teachings could mean she was doomed to hell in his mind. He could have thought that she was better off this way, since she could go to heaven. Bringing disgrace to the family is very bad; but it's bad for both the child and the family.

You really have to understand the person and that religion. The fanatics take the worst side of it. Sometimes Christian parents do the same. "Saving her from herself?" A phrase we hear at times.

How we see it; how we feel about it -- that isn't relevant.
