| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | This seems a bit far fetched to me -- not that it couldn't be done, or possibly will have to be done, but it simply seems that it's unlikely. Having a plan on the board is expected, of course. On the other hand, it may come to this -- but couldn't those new, huge bombs do it, without it being a nuclear attack that could have bad results over Asia, Europe, Northern Africa and wherever else the wind blows? Like over the whole world. Pentagon Has 3-Day Blitz Plan for Iran Sunday, September 2, 2007 6:28 PM The United States has a "shock and awe" plan designed to annihilate Iran's military, in the event of an attack. According to the Sunday Times of London, the plan calls for massive airstrikes against 1,200 targets in Iran, over three days. Alexis Debat, director of terrorism and national security at the Nixon Center, told the Times that U.S. military planners were not preparing for “pinprick strikes” against Iran’s nuclear facilities. “They’re about taking out the entire Iranian military. ... Whether you go for pinprick strikes or all-out military action, the reaction from the Iranians will be the same.” President Bush has accused Iran of putting the Middle East “under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust" because of its nuclear program. He has warned that the U.S. and its allies would confront Iran “before it is too late." One Washington source told the Time that the “temperature was rising” inside the administration. Bush is committed for now to the diplomatic route but thinks Iran is moving towards acquiring a nuclear weapon. According to one well placed source, Washington believes it would be prudent to use rapid, overwhelming force, should military action become necessary. Israel, which has warned it will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, has made its own preparations for airstrikes and is said to be ready to attack if the Americans back down. © 2007 NewsMax. http://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/iran_attack/2007/09/02/29343.html?s=al&promo_code=3955-1

| Monkey Mouse ![]() | The Pentagon has all kinds of plans for all kinds of things. Plans are supposed to cover all kinds of contingencies and some are far-fetched, but it just means it's been discussed and acknowledged. This would just be one of hundreds (or is it thousands?).

| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | Very likely, yes. This is NewsMax, and I believe their motto is "scare them into buying the book." I don't mean there's a book about this, but there must be one about the general situation! They're always shocked -- several times a day about many things or the same things. What is curious is why it would be published anywhere -- does News Max have a mole there? ![]()

| Monkey Mouse ![]() | It's possibly a "diplomatic" leak so Iran is made aware of what will, or could, happen if they attack Israel.

| Junior Officer ![]() | After those three days of taking out their 1200 military targets, then what? Kings-X, Iran, we were just teasing. The entire Middle East would go up in flames. Oil production would be halted, causing untold hardship on us as well as the rest of the world. Russia, China, and others might just get a tad miffed at us. What then?

| Daft. ![]() | Gulf War 1 style - 40 days and nights of nothing but cruise missiles and bombs. B2 Spirits and F117's first, B-52's and other "conventional" bombers (F-16s etc) in the second wave, air- and sea-launched cruise missiles while the bombers are doing their work. E-bombs (small electromagnetic pulse-causing bombs), "graphite bombs" (essentially cluster-bombs that drop graphite strands instead onto power lines to short them out) and HARM (anti-radar missiles) would probably be used in the first wave, the usual laser-guided bombs after that. In general, the usual way of starting a war these days. Regarding the contingency plans, the USA and UK will have plans for attacking probably 100 countries they deem most likely to be a threat. As said in one of my Falklands books, the UK had inf |
