Default Hundreds of Illegals Have Registered to Vote in Bexar County

1200 WOAI -- San Antonio, Texas -- Your News, Traffic, and Weather Station!

Officials are confident new procedures will purge them from the rolls

By Jim Forsyth
Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Hundreds of illegal immigrants have registered to vote in Bexar County in recent years and dozens of them have actually cast ballots, canceling out the votes of U.S. citizens, 1200 WOAI news will report Thursday morning.

Figures obtained by 1200 WOAI news shows 303 illegals successfully registered to vote, and at least 41 cast ballots in various elections.

Bexar County Elections Administrator Jackie Callanan confirmed the figures, but she says a new form of voter registration card, which requires people to swear they are citizens when they register, should help cut the problem, because people who vote illegally can be charged with perjury.

And the county has some sly ways to catch them.

"Maybe they have received a jury summons, the jury wheel relies on registered voters. They send a statement to the jury room that says they are not U.S. citizens and then we get that report immediately," Callanan says.

It's a hot issue in the Texas Legislature, where republicans are pushing a bill that would require voters to show some form of identification before voting.

"Considering that a photo ID is required to buy Sudafed, I can't understand why anyone would argue that the same standard, if not a higher standard, should apply to voting," Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst said. "Why would any Texan oppose legislation that ensures only U.S. citizens vote in elections?"

While not taking a position on the legislation, Callanan warned that any law that required that people present ID at the polling place might actually discourage people from voting.

"It will be cumbersome to have them presented at the polls," she said. "The lines will be longer. It will require an additional check."

Some Democrats in the Legislature have fought the proposal, saying it would keep the poor and minorities, who generally vote Democratic, away from the polls. A key Democratic Senator and Dewhurst got into an argument on the floor of the Senate over the emotional issue.

Callanan says if an ID law is approved, she hopes a process is in place to allow the Secretary of State, not the individual poll judges at the polling places, to inspect the identification and certify that a voter is fit to vote.

Dewhurst says the legislation has been rewritten to make it as easy as possible for a person to prove their legal citizenship.

"Voters can now present military ID, valid employee ID, citizenship certificate, passport, student ID card, handgun permit, utility bill, bank statement, pay stub, mail from a government entity, marriage license, birth certificate, adoption certificate, pilot's license, hunting license, or even a library card," Dewhurst said. "What's so hard about this?"

Politicans don't give a tinker's damn about America's sovereignty. All they care about is votes and power.

Essential American Truths That Hispanics Must AcceptBy John Lillpop

After watching millions of illegal aliens and advocates protest in the streets of America, it is clear that many Hispanics, including those here legally, need to understand the following essential truths about America:

* In 1848, The Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo was ratified by both the U.S. and Mexican congresses. That treaty ended any and all claims Mexico had to land now a part of the United States;

* Native American Indians were the original owners of the American southwest. If there were any valid property right claims concerning that land, such rights would belong to Native American Indians, not Mexicans;

* America is a sovereign nation, totally independent of Mexico. It has been that way for over 200 years. We intend to keep it that way;

* Brown may be beautiful in Mexico. But in America, we are partial to colors that symbolize freedom under the rule of law. That would be Red, White and Blue;

* In America, Mexico is considered a FOREIGN nation and Spanish is a FOREIGN language;

* America operates according to the rule of law which applies to everyone. This is true whether one is brown, black, yellow, lily-white, red, or an exotic hybrid of lavender and green;

* Being hardworking and good hearted is commendable. But those qualities do NOT entitle anyone to enter America illegally;

* Bilingualism is cool--provided one of the languages is English. Literacy in only Mexican and Spanish is not cool in America;

* Celebrating one's cultural heritage is perfectly fine--as long as it does not interfere with complete and prompt assimilation into American culture.

* Driving while loaded or drunk may be "macho" in Mexico. But in America, driving under the influence is considered stupid and criminal and is not tolerated, regardless of one's country of origin or cultural heritage.

* People here illegally are criminals, and as such, are most unwelcome and should be deported regardless of whether or not families are involved. Illegal is illegal, family or not.

* Demanding that our borders be secured and that the law be enforced, including deportation of all illegal aliens, is the right of American citizens; doing so does not make any one a racist or bigot.

* U.S. immigration laws exist to protect American citizens and others here legally, not to facilitate a foreigner's pursuit of a better life, and

* Those who come to America must adjust to our culture and traditions. We have no obligation or desire to change in deference to foreign newcomers.

Illegal aliens: Take this list with you when you are deported back to Mexico, and share it with other Mexicans considering invading. Your experience may cause them to reconsider, and that would be a good thing!

Right!, I carry a wallet full of ID around with me every day including voter registration card, Soc. Sec. card, drivers license, VA ID, and plenty more just how 'cumbersome" is is to pull out one more card, IF YOU ARE LEGAL.

Same here. I even still have my "Selective Service" Card (Draft Card). And its still in my wallet.

Hell, most of the "forms of ID" don't even require a picture, or even proof that its yours.

How hard would it be to steal a power bill from someone's mailbox and present it as your proof of ID, giving you a vote in someone else's name?

I also carry a business card that says "VIET NAM VETERAN" on one side and,
"WARNING I suffer from occaisional loss of mental stability, and become very violent with only slight provocation. The Veterans Administration has determined that both mental and physical harrassment of my person may be hazardous to your health and well being, SO STAY THE HELL OUT OF MY FACE!, Thank You."
On the other.
