| Junior Officer ![]() | Most of us would like to think that we are not racist. But could we harbor prejudices that we may not even be aware of? Project Implicit IAT Home It is well known that people don't always 'speak their minds', and it is suspected that people don't always 'know their minds'. Understanding such divergences is important to scientific psychology. This web site presents a method that demonstrates the conscious-unconscious divergences much more convincingly than has been possible with previous methods. This new method is called the Implicit Association Test, or IAT for short. In addition, this site contains various related information. The value of this information may be greatest if you try at least one test first... Go to the Demonstration Tests https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/

| Monkey Mouse ![]() | Good question, Cato. I had the good fortune to be raised on integrated bases by a father who abhorred racism. As a matter of fact, I clearly remember his belt across my heinie and legs because I'd joined some other kids in throwing rocks at the Japanese gardener in the housing area in Japan. I learned early on that neighbors could be pleasant or unpleasant, clean or dirty, trustworthy or untrustworthy and that race had absolutely nothing to do with it. I do have biases though, but they are things like free-loaders who expect a handout, people who choose crime, religious radicals (any religion) etc. None of those are dependent on race.

| NCO ![]() | Have you taken any of those tests? Try the one called "President's IAT". You are given the choice of President Bush or another President (mine was Jefferson), and how I feel about them, as well as how you feel about the Republician and Democratic parties. Then comes the test. You pick pictures of Bush and Jefferson, moving them into one category or another. Next you chose words that would be good or bad..."joy" "happy" "anger" "agony" etc... Then comes the 3rd test. Under Bush is "Bad", and under Jefferson is "Good". Pictures first then the same words above, and each time you pick Bush its "Bad". Who's talking about prejudices now?

| Monkey Mouse ![]() | That sounds very biased to me. Rather typical for a college these days - JMHO. No, I didn't take the tests, I just answered the question, which I thought was a good one.
