Now if you were to measure your response time, which is what I think the game does, but I am not sure exactly how that game is set up. The video in this case is measuring your hesitation to shoot. If the data shows that a person hesitates, it is a function of that person having to deal with something subconsciously, a morality issue. To shoot or not shoot a person that is suppose to be real. Not like a game where you know consciously that the person is simply pitching a ball.

I am also sure that the game developers could build into that game if someone was hesitating for fast balls and indicate that as well.

Yes, I am dealing with a bias. The first is swing to not swing. 85 mph, 90ish feet. The ball arrives within a few hundredths of a second.

Swing at a good pitch...good. Swing at a bad pitch...bad.

i.e. BIAS!

Now, my choice isn't based on the color of the pitcher.

And your hitting, or lack thereof, will decide if you play or not.

The second part of the decision, after you decide to swing, can be compared to the hesitation.

The only real difference in this is that in one test, you may get embarrassed. In the other, people can die.

Sports:

Bias Definition as used by the field of Psychology.
A preference or inclination that inhibits impartiality; prejudice.

Biases are learned. They are not innate preferences, rather, are developed, nurtured and grow out of a lifetime of experiences, teachings and indirect cultural representations. For example, people may tend to associate with people who look, feel or somehow behave like them. From these interactions they (we) develop preferences and dislikes and then create in-groups and out-groups. The logical conclusion of which is that differences of opinion, combined with a limited ability to communicate with one another and a cultural sanctioning of violence can lead to hate crimes.

Not all biases lead to crime. An individual can for example, love his mother's cooking and, when asked to judge a pie-baking contest, chooses his mother's as the best recipe. Bias can be as innocuous as favoring chocolate to vanilla or as caustic as hating Catholic people because one is Episcopalian.

As for the term Stressor used in the study, it concerns a situation of shooting a person, not hitting a ball or facing a pitch. It is about the taking of a life, that sets up a stressor in this situation.

Here's the thing. I've never shot anyone. So, I have no experience with it. Few do. I have done "Shoot/Don't Shoot" drills, but never to the real life aspect of it. Mine was done with paintballs.

So, I tried to put it into a reference I, and others, can understand...baseball.

However, I'm tired of being told I'm a moron just for considering comparing the two. You win. Congratulations.
