Yep...called a "Contract Marriage". He gets out of the barracks, gets BAH or housing, and she gets the spousal benefits, to include the free medical care.

They may even see each other once a month, mostly by accident.

There's another version where the woman gets the GI to think with the WRONG BRAIN, he marries her, she gets instant visa, dependent ID card, shopping the BX and cleans his clock in divorce court.

The woman I was engaged to in Spain but never married..... I wondered a few times if she just wanted to get a green card. After I caught her fooling around when we were engaged, less than two years later she married another GI. One of her close friends did the same. Her talents in the sack probably helped her get married.
