UK: prison toilets rebuilt to face away from Mecca

More bending over for terrorists. IMHO, religion is a 'right', and being in prison MEANS to have your rights stripped away. When you obey the laws of society, you have rights, like speech, religion, voting, and such. While in prison, your have NO rights, that is the punishment. That is why you are not supposed to WANT to go to prison..

Am I right thinking this way?

JAIL bosses are rebuilding toilets so Muslim inmates don’t have to use them while facing Mecca. Thousands of pounds of taxpayers money are being spent to ensure lags are not offended.
The Islamic religion prohibits Muslims from facing or turning their backs on the Kiblah — the direction of prayer — when they visit the lav.
Muslim lags claimed they have had to sit sideways on prison WCs.
But after pressure from faith leaders the Home Office has agreed to turn the existing toilets 90 degrees at HMP Brixton in London.
The Home Office refused to reveal the cost of the new facilities — part of an “on-going refurbishment”.
One Muslim former inmate said: “The least the Prison Service can do is make sure people can practise their religion correctly in prison.”

No, the least YOU can do is not commit crimes.

But a Brixton jail officer said: “If they didn’t get locked up for committing crime they would not have this problem. Yet we have to sort out their loos. If we weren’t paying for it as taxpayers I’d laugh my socks off.”
Around a quarter of prisoners at the Category B jail are Muslims.
Labour MP Khalid Mahmood said: “As far as I understand this rule only applies in a place of worship.”
Tory MP Ann Widdecombe said: “Some common sense needs to be applied.”

What about the next prisoner to use that cell and WANTS to face Mecca...the Brits have to fix it back I guess.

I'd have them change it daily. Sometimes you feel like a mecca, sometimes you don't. HA!

They're in prison because of their choices. They didn't face Mecca when they turned sideways, and that didn't cost the taxpayers. What next? Forced redo of all toilets in the UK?

muslims and jews have their own kitchens in US prisons. Not sure about Canada, but sure they do also.

As stated. IMHO such rights are lost upon comitting a crime. Eat the damned pork chop, or go hungry. Choice is easy.

Never used to have this problem with the slop bucket, and if it isn't still being used in some prisons, it probably soon will be, with the current overcrowding crisis.
