| Junior Officer ![]() | WTO Announces Formalized Slavery Model for Africa WTO | NEWS - WTO Announces Formalized Slavery Model for Africa - Press 388 snip At a Wharton Business School conference on business in Africa, World Trade Organization representative Hanniford Schmidt announced the creation of a WTO initiative for "full private stewardry of labor" for the parts of Africa that have been hardest hit by the 500 years of Africa's free trade with the West. The initiative will require Western companies doing business in some parts of Africa to own their workers outright. Schmidt recounted how private stewardship has been successfully applied to transport, power, water, traditional knowledge, and even the human genome. The WTO's "full private stewardry" program will extend these successes to (re)privatize humans themselves. "Full, untrammelled stewardry is the best available solution to African poverty, and the inevitable result of free-market theory," Schmidt told more than 150 attendees. Schmidt acknowledged that the stewardry program was similar in many ways to slavery, but explained that just as "compassionate conservatism" has polished the rough edges on labor relations in industrialized countries, full stewardry, or "compassionate slavery," could be a similar boon to developing ones. Dressed up and called something else, but still basically slavery. Remember this is straight off the WTO website.

| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | "Compassionate" hogwash! This is outrageous in any time, but certainly now, in these times. This could possibly open the door to slavery anywhere else, couldn't it? If the immorality of slavery is allowed by a company in such a way, how long before it again can become "acceptable" to own people in other ways?

| Monkey Mouse ![]() | This is a bad joke! I truly think that most of us will rise up against any American companies that own slaves under this evil proposal. One thing that needs to be corrected though. This article implies that slavery in Africa began with the European countries going in. It existed long before the Europeans showed up when tribes would raid tribes and enslave people. It was the Africans who captured their own and sold them to the Europeans. The European colonies don't exist anymore (as colonies) and slavery of Africans by Africans is still going on.

| Icing Queen ![]() | It would probably be more of a responsiblity than any company would want to take on. They'd have to take care of all their medical needs, housing, etc. Why should their own country want to have to see that their people aren't living in poverty?
