| Junior Officer ![]() | Whoooo Boy! Won't that be fun? AND DAMNED EXPENSIVE! BREITBART.COM - Army: Troops to Stay in Iraq Until 2010 If this plays out as true, the PUBS can kiss goodby any chance of ever regaining their former positions of grandeur. Good Lord, what are they possibly thinking of to annouce this just before elections.

| Crew Dawg ![]() | I don't think anybody knows enough or is insightful enough to be able to make that prediction.

| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | Maybe it's just an aberration, and a politician is telling the truth as perceived now. I agree with Sir Blue, though. It's too soon for such a prediction. And it may be longer than 2010 that we have to be there. We're still in Japan, aren't we?

| NCO ![]() | It could be a simple case of preparing the pubkic for the LONG HAUL, they could pull out befor that but if the stay it could be a case of , well we told you so in 2006. Maybe I am just a cynical old soldier, when it comes to politicians and their decisions/statements |

| Junior Officer ![]() | I hear the answers, but does anyone truly believe we can afford to remain there at current levels until 2010? We'll have to print a lot of Monopoly Money to do so.

The only part that bothers me is the waste of money spent by communities granted money for homeland defense. Otherwise it works out that whether our troops are in Iraq or in Georgia, Japan or Germany the cost to maintain a force is a given. I mentioned cost relative to money spent, not in lives. The concern that began this thread was about money. One could argue that equipment needed for the desert raises the cost. That could be offset by dependents housing and other dependent related costs. Along with that is land leased from a foreign gov. to maintain a base. That ain't cheap. Those points would be subject to auditing to see what differances there might be.
