Default British cop won't guard embassy

Another tolerant muslim trying to change a country to fit his agenda. Just because he does not agree with it, does not give him the right to skirt his duties. He TOOK the job, enjoyed the pay/benifits/training, and the -dotted line- is signed.

Quote:
UK Muslim officer excused from duty at Israeli embassy after requesting release on moral grounds Ynetnews Published: 10.05.06, 05:04

London's police chief on Thursday launched an urgent review of a decision not to post a Muslim officer at the Israeli embassy after a newspaper reported that he had been excused on moral grounds.

PC Alexander Omar Basha, who is attached to the force's Diplomatic Protection Group, objected to being posted to protect Israel's embassy in central London from possible terrorist attack because he disagreed with the country's bombing of Lebanon during the recent war.

According to British newspaper 'the Guardian', the officer had reportedly attended a recent anti-war protest.

Police chiefs excused Basha last week but critics said they feared it would open the floodgates for officers of any religion or belief to refuse to carry out certain duties.
"Having learned of this issue I have asked for an urgent review of the situation and a full report into the circumstances," Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said in a statement.
Slippery slope
John O'Connor, a former Metropolitan Police flying squad commander, told the London-based Sun newspaper: "This is the beginning of the end for British policing."
"If they can allow this, surely they'll have to accept a Jewish officer not wanting to work at an Islamic national embassy. Will Catholic cops be let off working at Protestant churches? Where will it end? This decision is going to allow officers to work in a discriminating and racist way," he added.

It's like a soldier refusing to go to war, because they may actually get shot at! In Military and Emergency Service roles, I'm sorry but your politics/religion should never be an issue. If you have signed on for the job, it is your duty to do it.

I know we do not want our forces full of robots, but we still need discipline and a bit of common sense also, surely?

Even in the civilian world I am not able to tell my boss what tasks I 'choose to do'. If he says "Secure the sheet saw, crawl under it and clean out the saw dust, oh and change the blades." if I said "I'll change the blades, but being a 'tree hugger' I find it loathsome to touch the dust of the revered/proud/honourable tree."

ahem.. Can you say, fired, unemployment line, unpaid bills?

OK this is how it works in the MIlitary, Issue and order , the recipient refuses give him a time limit,if he refuses carry out military discipline. Obviously this scenario as described (Military) is applicable to base operations NOT frontline war.

Order him refuses discipline and or sack him.

Watching TV news reports about this policeman. It would appear that rank and file members of the police force are outraged at this mans attitude.

What next will he refuse to guard the American or Canadian embassies.

He is a member of the diplomatic protection group an armed team of police officers. So where to now for him................
