Angry Fiesta fear over Muslim effigies

I am afraid to say it but the extremists and terrorists are winning the war.

First it was the popes statement that was attacked,
then a Mozart opera in Germany
and NOW village fiestas in Spain.

Spain was the last Bastion of Islam in europe until the Moors were kicked out in 1492.

Now the free world is afraid to celebrate its history because of extremists.
What about all these Islamic celebrations we see on the TV celebrating their past.

Its time the free world got of its complacent ass and said "thats it thus far and NO further", if you dont like our life style stay where you can practice yours as you like (silly me they can do that in the free world) and leave us to live our lives as we wish too.

Fiesta fear over Muslim effigies

Tuesday October 3rd 2006

SPANISH villages are abandoning the centuries-old tradition of burning effigies of the Prophet Mohammed for fear of offending Muslims.

The annual festivals, across Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands, feature locals donning medieval costumes to re-enact battles between "Moors and Christians" during the Reconquista (reconquest) period.

The fiestas celebrate events in 1492, when the Catholic kings of northern Spain defeated and expelled Muslim forces.

Traditionally the festivities have culminated with the burning of mannequins of the Mahoma, a figure based on the Prophet Mohammed.

But, according to reports, local authorities have toned down the rituals to preserve Muslim sensibilities and avoid a repeat of the furore that followed last year's publication of Danish cartoons of the Prophet.

"As it could hurt some people's feelings, we decided not to do it," Antonio Valdes, the mayor of Bocairent, told El Pais, the daily newspaper.

Default Spaniards tone down exploding Mohammed at fiestas

So, islamic terror is winning. For fear of 'terrorist activities' Spain is down playing a centuries old tradition. I suppose the Madrid bombings made them cave instead of becoming united. Damed shame.

What's next? No pinata's? Might offend PETA you know.

Let them be 'offended'. Are not the citizens of Spain 'offended' by the bombings? ppffsstt... If the muslims riot, shoot them. If they 'protest', well that is fine. but we all know there is no such thing as a 'peaceable muslim protest', it's all about the violance.

Quote:
MADRID (Reuters) - Spanish villages are toning down traditional fiestas in which revelers blow up dummies representing the Prophet Mohammed for fear of offending Muslims, the newspaper El Pais reported on Monday. One eastern Spanish village, Bocairent, decided to abandon the custom of packing the head of a dummy representing Mohammed with fireworks after seeing the angry response by Muslims to a Danish newspaper's publication last year of cartoons of him....
Bocairent's mayor, Antonio Valdes, said blowing up the Mohammed dummy was offensive.
"It just wasn't necessary, and, as it could hurt some people's feelings, we decided not to do it," he said.
The village may not have blown up the wood-and-cardboard Mohammed dummy this year -- but it still threw it off a castle wall at the fiesta's climax in February.
Villages all over Spain hold annual festivals to commemorate the "Reconquista," the reconquest of Spain by Christians from the Moors, which was completed in 1492 after more than 700 years of Muslim rule in much of the country.
Spain is now once again home to a growing number of Muslims, mainly Moroccan immigrants, who villagers feel might be offended by some of their traditional celebrations.

Well, hell, we can't hurt their feelings because they're so sensitive that they'll go out and shoot some innocent in the back or behead still another hostage.

I've visited Spain and the Muslims left some beautiful architecture there from their ealier conquest of that country. It's there waiting for their second conquest which will be easier 'cause the Spanairds are rolling over this time.

Perhaps they could tone down their flag burning (United Kingdom, United States, Denmark) as it could hurt some peoples feelings, but what the hell we're only infidels so our feelings don't count!
