Let's not revise history here, Dan. Saddam was giving this money to the families of the Palestinian suicide bombers long before Arafat died. And years ago when Iraq was lobbing missiles into Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel, one of my friends in Jerusalem told me that Saddam was a hero to them.

He was paying those sums, I believe, during Clinton's administration.

I agree with you about the Saudis. The Wahabbis, which is what the Taliban in Afghanistan are, did finance that attack.

Have you ever served in the military? It's not about "speaking out", it's usually about following orders. Especially when they are coming from a skilled political infighter like Rumsfeld who carefully surrounded himself with officers he deemed "reliable" or "on board" (read: will follow orders and not dissent) Those who did dissent either clammed up or found themselves relegated to the sidelines.


And retired Generals dont go public with statements asking the Sec. of Defense to resign, either.

When they do, as these 8 did, you know its serious.

I'm not justifying anything, Dan. You quoted:

Actually, I made it red because he used the word "suiciders". The President of the United States speaks about as eloquently as your average 7th grader

Once again Dan you've turned this into a hate Bush and the admistration thread. You really need to get over it or it's gonna eat you up. Prez Bush did not do everything right, that' true. But, he did do something. Unlike the Dems and Lib left which I have'nt heard a soulution for this yet. We went into Iraq to drop Saddam. He had csah money to pay terroists to do what they do. Our local guard unit was in charge of hauling millions of dollars at a time in 100 dollar bills. This was'nt the only reason we went into Iraq. We are there to position ourselves. You said you served. You should know that there are dozens of wars we are involved in. Most the public are not even aware of it. I know I was sent to a couple of these. The way the world is we as the most powerful nation in the history of mankind must use our power not to conquer but to stabilize situations. It's our duty. Bush is a doer, you may not like all he does, but he acts. I took a oath and to the day I die I will support my Pres. Yes even if he is a democrat. I may not like him but, there are things that go on in the world we don't know and have no bussines of knowing. Dan take your blinders off and get your head out of your rear. This is'nt a game.

I think he was calm, yet forceful in his convictions.
We won't stop helping Iraq become a safer place
and self sufficient while I'M on watch.

Now, I won't argue that new blood/ideas aren't a
bad thing, wars evolve and so do ideas on how best
to fight them. I also do not believe that Rumsfeld
is McNamara Take II, either, as his generals have
alot more lateral play as events unfold.
