| Crew Dawg ![]() | Okay... I'm just gonna post this unrepentant rant, and let it go at that... don't care if anyone agrees or disagrees: Mrs. Clinton shamelessly and spuriously accused SECDEF Rumsfeld of incompetence and misconduct in the war and Iraq on national TV (CSpan) the other day during a hearing on the topics... I was REALLY really urinated off at the way she spoke to and about him, and about the war. After she vented her anemic spleen at him and other senior branch commanders at table that day, his extremely dignified first response to her was... "Oh, my goodness." I have not ceased to be grateful for and very proud of our current Secretary of Defense.

| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | Thank god for Rummy. He is a man of few words unless he is pushed and during the Hillary bash he did great. People want to know everything going on, but the truth is we the public do not need to know everything, neither does Hillary "Brownshirt" Rodham. 3 cheers for Mr. Secetary Rumsfield.

| Head Zookeeper ![]() | Rumsfeld's grand schemes of a lighter, more mobile Army and HIS sacking of experienced voices (Gen. Shineski, etc..) led us to the stae we are in. He was told by a comittee of retired military Generals, (doing something that Ret. Generals just dont do) to step down (men with something like 300 years of military service combined) calling for this CIVILIANS head, and he still gets unwavering support from some people? It's simply partisan politics at this point. Dont matter who is responsible for the mess in Iraq, as long as a Democrat calls him out on it, and a Clinton at that (Hillary did a fantastic job and this sort of thing should have happened years ago) I dont think that it is the substance that matters, what matters now to Republicans is simply politics. Which does not bode well for those fighting and dying under poor leadership and fatally flawed planning.

| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | Rumsfeld lost me when he said the troops were poorly armed and equipped because "we go to war with what we have." If a nation is attacked, as we were by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, yes - you go with what you have. But when you are the aggressor? No. And you do not fire the generals. Really, Sir Blue, these things make me very wary of the Secretary of Defense - whose title seems more appropriate to what we did in WWII. He may be a genius, but I can't agree with him.

| Crew Dawg ![]() | Well... one DOES go to war with what one has... The 101st was equipped to the freakin' gills for Normandy, no doubt about it. However, on their first combat jump almost ALL the troopers lost practically EVERYTHING that was strapped to them just from prop wash and 125 mph winds... by the time they hit the ground they had what they had, and started trying to find stuff IN TOTAL DARKNESS that had blown off OTHER people to get into the fight with and complete their mission. A number of those kids did not even land with their freakin' rifles in hand, and had to go against the Nazi army with a knife to start out. Fact is, like it or not, you DO go to war with exactly what you have, and what is more, what you have may not be what you need. A fighter improvises, invents, creates, and carries on... and so do his commanders or else... you lose, and you may lose even if you DO have the best and most equipment possible. End of topic. Rumsfeld is the best dang SECDEF I've had the honor of noticing in this otherwise insane government since I was old enough to know anything about what the job entails.

| Jr. Officer ![]() | Quote:
The United States Marine Corps is a highly mobile Force In Readiness. It has studied mobility tactics and has refined an approach to fast action combat readiness. Case in point; the Army Special Forces forward deployed during Desert Sheild/ Desert Storm. They were severely undersupplied and the Marines came in and saved Army Special Forces from starvation due to lack of planning on the Army's part. The Marines have MPS ships, and TAVB ships to support immediate, 90 day and Follow-on Support (FISP). They are highly mobile and can support for many different profiles. The Army is a huge burden on military operations. They have (at that time and place) ZERO high mobility planning, and that is why the Commander of European Operations is now a Marine, instead of the flacid Army command. End state; the Army needs to evolve with the times and commit to high mobility operations. The stodgy Army resistance has only hurt the United States Armed Forces by not casting off the regimine of past ages and being aggressive in coming up to speed in new combat doctrine. Until it does, the Army will continue to be a doorstop....Hillary has ZERO idea of Armed Forces tactics, it's a laugh that she "cares" now....(she surely didn't when her hubby was in power), so don't boar me with your political rantings, Danno, since you could care less about the military now that you are out, and now a rabid Demoncrat. Pieces out, Danno.... ![]()
