Default The Subversive Plan to Ditch The Electoral College

I know this is a subject near and dear to Ol' Cuz's heart, but thought it appropiate.

http://www.eagleforum.org/column/200.../06-05-10.html

"The plan of this Campaign for the National Popular Vote (NPV) is to get states with at least 270 votes in the Electoral College to enact identical bills requiring their own electors to ignore the winner of their state's election and cast all their state's ballots for the candidate who the state believes received more popular votes than the other candidates nationwide, even if he fails to win a majority of the popular vote."

What say you?

Sounds like an excellent way to concentrate power into the hands of a few, one reason that the Electoral College was set up to avoid.

Sure seems that way, doesn't it?

I would ask, is this within States Rights? Were the shoe on the other foot it might well be a gang of frustrated conservatives.
I don't see any serious attempt by either party to change what might well work to their advantage at a later date.

Shooterman, to me this would spell disaster for everything this nation stands for. I believe it would be an excellent next step to trashing the Constitution. All the power would immediately shift to the cities, and the rest of us could forget having any say in anything political.

JaySUS!

Okay now... is it not true already that:

a. Power is in the hands of the few
b. Power is in the hands of the cities

Everything this nation stands for was sold down the river the minute the electoral college, gerrymandering, closed primaries, eminent domain and sovereign immunity were established as a means of thwarting the will of the electorate.

People can keep right on making the same tired old arguements against abolition of those outdated and extravagantly damaging policies all they care to... until the whole dang Republic falls.

Every time those who have the power see we who don't have it keep up with those goofy arguements favoring the sustenance of their power they wring their tiny deformed smelly little paws rejoicing at our our astonishing level of ignorance and stupidity.
