Default School's decision to ban flags upsets veterans

School's decision to ban flags upsets veterans

LOGANSPORT, Ind. Logansport High School's decision to ban flags on campus for a day has upset some veterans, but school officials say they are sticking by their choice.

Logansport High School administrators told students not to bring flags to school Friday, which was Cinco de Mayo, a holiday celebrating Mexican troops' defeat of a French army in 1862.

The flag ban included flags from all nations, including the United States.

Administrators made the decision to ban flags after a week of tension between some Hispanic students and others over the national debate on immigration rights.

But some veterans say the was a slap in the face to those who have served in the armed forces.

Banning the kids from taking flags is one thing, and I think that was okay - so long as the school was flying the U.S. flag. I doubt that they were - this seems to be one of those "politically correct" decisions made by the usual band of non-thinkers.

Our flag should always fly before public buildings, and schools perhaps more so than others. We do want our children to know that our flag is our flag - and that we have the sacred right to fly her.

Well...as a retired educator, which I don't believe you, my friends above are...I see it as a wise decision. If there was a possiblitly (probability?) of problems being generated by "opposing opinions" by students, then appropriate action should be taken. It seems better to do that than to risk the problems that may have resulted by flying anything, including the school's US flag our front. How could they do that w/o then flying a school Mexican flag as well? Sorta would defeat the idea of not allowing partisanship to be acted out in school don't U think?

Methinks the whole rant is totally pointless and to create an issue out of it is irresponsible. Com'on! ONE day?!

Uh, Doc, this is America and we get to fly our flag whenever we want to. There is no requirement to also have to fly the Mexican flag (or any other foreign country's) at the same time.

Doc you are welcome to give your opinion, but calling us irresponsible for giving ours is just not right. We all get to play in this playground - just have to play nicely.
