| Enlisted Warrior ![]() | The disastrous foreign policies of the US have left it more isolated than ever, and China is standing by to take over Imperial America Read the article then answer the question, do you think in the next 50 years the superpower status of the USA will be eclipsed?? Keep in mind their strategic (military) influences throughout the world. That will be very very hard to China to match |

I think that America always needs a 'bogeyman' nation to justify its actions, to put the fear of god into its own population when it spends its trillions of taxpayers $$$$ on weapons. The 'problem' of China, is that they are not idiots, they are becoming an advanced nation of educated people with innovative and fresh ideas. That is what America is worried about, being outdone in 'good old competition'. Its hard to do things like justifying an expanded 317 ship navy, or a new bomber program when killing arabs out in the middle of the desert. |

| Pending User ![]() | I think the situation is dire when it comes to the United States retaining it's "Top Dog" status. Especially considering that corporations go where the money is. Right now, there are more people in China poised to buy products and services than anywhere else in the world. Also, the cost of living being much lower than here or in more developed nations, labor can be had at a much lower cost. Furthermore, if you think that the price of oil is higher simply because of the fears of terrorist attacks, think again. As the Chinese factories gear up to overtake the US in productivity, so will their hunger for oil and their control over market prices. Those who buy the most...controls the flow. There is much more to this. But, limited time restricts my comments. |

| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | Yeah, but America has shown via what it did to Iraq that it can't be trusted with the 'top dog' status. Its good to have a force to counter America's 'Uber Alles' attitude to world politics. The only thing America truely respects is power. the last century was the 'American century', and while i would not write America off anytime soon, I would say that it won't be the influence in the world it once was. Its reaction to 9/11 was the one thing that lost the US its standing as a true world leader when it basically told the rest of the world to "go **** itself". hey imagine what would have been the reaction if the pilots of 9/11 were Chinese...ha ha ha. It would have probably just grovelled and blamed the North Koreans (until it found out it had nuclear weapons) then invaded....lets see, whose left...um...um....I know....Tibet...no...already been done...who else looks asian, doesn't have nuclear weapons, and preferably has lots of oil. | Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | 50 years is a long period. In this time much can happen. The main question is if China will be able to hold such fast economic growth. In the 50s and 60s some economists announced that the Soviet economy will overtake the US economy.I know it is not the same thing, but it shows that it is very difficult to tell what will happen in the next decades. One thing is clear.China is a new Russia for left-wingers. |

| Pending User ![]() | China is different than Russia for two reasons: First, because it has opened its economy to capitalism. second, though it DOES have it's military in the western hemisphere much like the US has military in Korea and Japan, it does not have to spend as much on it's military. China will NOT fail because it took steps to dominate the world market with worthless trinket type garb long enough to gain footholds in fields that are more technologically advanced. Also, it gained the favor of the strongest nation of the 20th century (unlike Russia) which allowed them to open their markets to Import goods (and jobs). |
