Default Iwo Jima - If fought today..

Reporting; complete with pictures from the battle, and with reporting as if it were being fought today:

Be sure to read this all the way to the end.. Food for thought, indeed.

Fine tribute, M'am. Very fitting to the guys that fought, bled, and died there.

I have two jars in my hutch, one is black lava sand from the beach, and the other is dirt from the top. One of my boot camp buddies who made Master Sergeant and was able to re-enlist there sent them to me, they're more sacred to me than holy water.

The morons today, with a very few exceptions, can't hold a candle to the WWII war correspondents.

Reminds me of an e-mail joke that ends something like "We'll I have it all wrong! We'll bring back all the generals and let them be reporters behind desks and cushy chairs, and you reporters can go to war and be generals, since y'all seem to have this here shootin' match figgered out."

I bet that they are, Bay. They were blessed by blood.

If reporters would just report all the facts, even those they don't like, but they get caught up in their political opinions. I like that email joke.

Yes, you're 100% right with this, KBay. In WWII they had the strange concept that news was reporting what actually happened - opinions were not given and were not expected. They really had the odd notion that generals ran wars, politicians played in their play ground in DC, and reporters simply said what had happened.

And the actors and actresses in Hollywood made movies - mostly patriotic movies, and if one wanted to say anything against the war, the president or the men fighting, they would quickly find themselves out of jobs.

The world was at war, but this nation was right side up.

During WWII, a heck of alot of actors signed up and fought in the war of their own volition, along with major sports figures. It sickens me that I still hear people disparaging Patrick Tillman and his death. At least he had the intestinal fortitude to give up his football salary and join the fight.
