Default Our troops and Generals want to go home!!!

They knew then as they know now how to do it!!!

"Sure, we want to go home. We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the bastards who started it. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we can go home. The shortest way home is through Berlin and Tokyo. And when we get to Berlin, I am personally going to shoot that paper hanging son-of-a-***** Hitler. Just like I'd shoot a snake!"
- General George S. Patton, Jr
(addressing his troops before Operation Overlord, June 5, 1944)

When I read in the press that our troops moral is low because they want to go home, I was reminded of what Patton said. Of course they wanted to go home! I wanted to go home when I was in the first Gulf War, but I wanted to do my duty too! All you have to do to win a war using US troops is tell them they're going home as soon as they defeat the enemy. Give them all the weapons, ammo, and all the support they need, and nothing, and I mean NOTHING can with-stand the US military machine. Stand back and let them go! There is nothing more highly motivated than a US fighting man or woman who knows they're going home after accompishing their assignment!

As my brother told a particularly troublesome (but intelligent) private who had been requesting leave for weeks :

"You want to go? Go, just remember, that if we all left, like you, to go home, there won't be a home left to go to."

The man (sorry boy actually), left for the troop collection point, sat there for a day, came back and tore up his leave allocation in front of my brother's eyes and said:

"Leftenant, this is my home now."

A protracted war helps noone. It also makes winning the peace that much harder. Please, learn from the mistakes we made in Kashmir...

When my wife and I met, she was about as un-military minded a person as you can be. Grew up in California, and had never even seen a person in uniform.
A couple of years after we were married, we were looking to buy a house near her family, and she asked me a question.
"If all hell broke loose, would you go to war? or come here and protect your family?" My answer was simple. "I'd do what I promised when I raised my right hand." It took a lot of persuading and gentle argument, but the one thing that got through to her was this,"If everyone went home to protect their homes and families, who would be left to fight? Would you rather I protect you side-by-side with my buddies, somewhere else? Or right here, by myself?"
I swore, and I didn't take it lightly.

And you're right 63, telling an American he can go home as soon as he accomplishes the mission, is the quickest way to achieve victory!

That sounds fine and dandy...But how do you achieve victory when there in no defined enemy? When you're not allowed to go after the enemy only RE-ACT to being attacked??? How do you achieve victory when you are "not at war", but there "nation building" and attempting to "bring democracy" to people not willing to fight for it?
